Drool!!! I love Victorians and the details are stunning. I love how the REA posted photos of the door knobs & hinges.
Bunny - next reno project
re: haunted houses, the kids in our neighborhood thought our house was haunted since it sat dark and vacant for years after the previous owners died. It went into disrepair too (overgrown, shutters hanging, etc.)

You know, I don't really believe in ghosts per se, but that place just LOOKS creepy. I do not think I'd buy it, despite the gorgeous woodwork and fixtures.

Is it just me or does it look like they used some sort of "creepy" filter on the photos?!
I can't deal with haunted houses. In our last rental, we had a scary incident with my then 3yo. She was in bed and sat up paralysed but screaming in the most scared, horrible scream. Like started out stifled like she was too scared to scream and then built into this half scream. She told us she saw a white ghost man walk from her closet across her room to the other corner. She still insists it happened very matter-of-fact. I always had a weird feeling in her room. I was honestly glad when we moved.
I spent about 45 minutes down the rabbit hole of this house yesterday. I'm not a total ghost skeptic, but I would be willing to consider something that *might* be haunted. Let's just say that both my mom and my brother tend to be pretty attuned to that kind of stuff, but there's a difference between a friendly spirit that just exists there, and some angry, vengeful shit going on.
Anyway, the owner of this house says that he saw a full-out apparition of a man with jet black eyes in his office when he was just working there in broad daylight one day.
ABORT! ABORT! That sounds not-human in origin.
So while I remained open-minded about looking at it (because it's basically ALL original and HUGE and CHEAP and GORGEOUS) my conclusion is now: NOPE.
I think it would make a great B&B, though.
And I would totally visit a ton of supposedly haunted and/or creepy places, like the Lemp mansion in St. Louis or the Lizzie Borden house (which is a B&B).

I think the furnishings (especially that baby doll, WTF) and the cracked plaster, etc are not helping matters. But then, you can't buy something that's so gorgeous and not furnish it with period-specific furnishings, so it would probably still look haunted, lol.
Although the people who bought the Amityville Horror house said they never had anything happen at all, even though the previous owners were forced to move out. So you could definitely take that chance!

It's actually not the inside that's bothering me, because I think the decor and plaster and whatever are definitely visual issues. It's the outside.
It does not look like a happy house. At all. And I don't think painting would change anything.
I was actually just coming in to post this, hehe. I'd buy it and fix it up. THey aren't really doing themselves any favors with the super-dark and creepy photos, unless they're hoping to actually sell it to paranormal fans.

It does have a weird vibe in person. The new owners re-sided half of the house in the last 10 years or so (you can see that in the photos) but the other side is still the same since I was in high school. I used to look up at the windows when we would drive by and it always freaked me out.
The house sticks out like a sore thumb where it is. and I can get over the fact that there are 10 bedrooms in this thing, but a shared driveway.

The stairway is beautiful! I had never seen normal photos of the inside. Usually just photos showing all the "orbs" *eyeroll*
The area around this place is busy and trashy, such a shame.
I grew up only a few miles away from this house in the next town over. I just drove by on Saturday to go visit family!
You are right though that the busy intersection, no parking around it, no yard, dive bar and gun shop across the street make it a difficult property to sell. Nevermind the haunted legends!
The inside is so beautiful though, I hope someone will continue to restore it! It's always been in a state of disrepair for as long as I can remember.

Yes, South Gardner is baaaad!
Are you still local?
I live in Southern NH now (Monadnock Region), so about 40 mins away. I still travel through frequently since my family still lives in that area.
