my concern with the free standing is that the hardware would be by a glass block wall, and in the winter I'm concerned about the pipes freezing. BUT, H and I like the design plan for freestanding more.
We met with the bathroom designer today, and I LOVE her plan. Just have to settle on the tub choice. H and I are not in agreement. :\

I like the look of freestanding but I would probably go with a drop in. I like all the shelving space around it to sit my bath salts, razors, bubble bath, etc.

Agree with the bolded.
For some reason, I just don't like the look of freestanding.
I vastly prefer the drop in. More room to put whatever you might need around it, and also to just sit on the edge if you want to soak your feet or something like that. I would pass on buying a house if the tub was freestanding.
ETA: that is, if it's a completely full-sized tub. The one in the picture looks rather small.
Oh, I presume that anyone with a tub in a master uses it like 4x/year and not for actual getting clean purposes. So who needs shelf space? You need that in the shower.
Does your actual tub area take up as much room as the one pictured in the drop-in? I like having a bit more of a ledge so in theory prefer drop-in, but the one pictured is way too much.

I use mine all the time. I find it easier to shave in the tub rather than the shower. So, it is used at least once a week to shave, probably a couple times a month for bath soaks and probably once a month or so for bathtub sex.

Well, the pro to the drop in is that we already have it, and could just keep the current tub. She showed us some beautiful tile and color ideas that would go really well with the almond color it is now. BUT, she also said it would be a wash in terms of price to keep it because to make it fit with the new design and not be horribly dated, it would need a new top surface (not tile), and we'd re-do the mount so it would be a soft curve to match the oval shape of the bath tub. So basically it would cost about the same in labor and materials as a new tub.
the tub we'd get would be 71 inches - plenty big for soaking.
I think I'm leaning free standing. She revamped her design on the spot to accommodate that idea, because we originally said keep current drop-in tub, and added a little dresser storage where the tub is for linen storage. It was a serious light bulb moment and I think I'm finally getting excited about this little surprise project.
The drop in you posted looks off, I would worry about comfort in the freestanding you posted. I use mine several times a week, I have to be able to lounge

No way! We use this tub all.the.time.
All the time.
H soaks in it after runs, I zone out in it at night with a glass of wine, the girls call it "taking a bath in a swimming pool."
Designer was like "are you sure you want to keep a tub?" and we were all

BOOM goes the dynamite.
YESSSSSSS
Is that your tub? And where do I get one of those wine/food holder thingies?
Considering how often you use your tub, I think you should go to a showroom and actually sit in them. It'd really suck if you chose freestanding because it looks better, but then got it installed and found it uncomfortable!
I think the freestanding looks nicer, but I'd do the built-in anyway. (I also use my tub on a regular basis. I actually passed on nice homes simply because they didn't have a tub in the master bathroom.)
