J just got the radio flyer one, with two wheels in front. He's doing pretty good. When you lean one side or the other, the front wheels turn that way, and that's how you change direction. He's slowly getting the hang of it, but he just jumps of and spins the scooter to go the way he wants.
We have the micro kick board and love it - Henry got it when he was 2.5 and used it constantly and it's still in great condition for E (who refuses to wear a helmet 75% of the time and thus doesn't get much practice, lol). We graduated to a regular Razor scooter at age 5.

We have the radio flyer one. I find it's a bit stiff to turn but it's possible we could loosen it slightly and it would be fine, I haven't really looked. I like it well enough.
We've got one with 2 wheels in the back. She does good on it, took her about a week to get confident enough to look stable. I haven't noticed her ankle getting in the way. Now she lifts up her back leg when she's got enough speed.
Lil has the Y Bike scooter with the two wheels in he front. It's really sturdy and well made. It's a little hard for her to turn but she's kind of cautious and I think that's why. I got it on yoyo.com, they had the best price and free 2 day shipping.
