I'm shopping online for nursery furniture. One item I did not get for DS's nursery is a good rocker/glider with an ottoman. I have a leather recliner in his room (it was a chair we already had) but I know I want a rocker/glider with ottoman for DD's nursery. Anyone have one they would recommend? Also if you have one that sucked, please share that too. Thanks in advance!
i have rotated through several chairs we already own in R's room and i hate them all. next kid i'm splurging on a Dutailier rocker/glider. they are $$$, but it's a piece of furniture i can see keeping for a long time and failing that they have good resale value.
I'm rocking in ours right now and it's so comfy I could fall asleep right here! We have the Quinn with matching rocking ottoman. Looks and feels great after 2.5 years of daily use.
We have the Best Chairs Quinn too. I got to pick the fabric I wanted and it's incredibly comfy for me at 5'1" and DH at 6'3". We got the best deal at BBB with a coupon.
We have a dutailier. It glides really nice and feels sturdy. The finish is pretty good quality. The cushions suck though and have my butt permanently imprinted on them after 6 months. I plan to get new cushions once it no longer sees such heavy use.
I have a Dutailier fully upholstered glider (rocks and swivels) and ottoman. I got to pick my fabric so it was somewhat customized. After 3 kids and near daily use since May of 2008 it is still in perfect condition.
Dutailier's website will list retailers near you.
It was expensive-about 1k for both pieces, it has really been worth it.
We have the Dylan glider and ottoman from Land of Nod. I LOVE them. Like, spontaneously tell DH every so often how glad I am that we got it-level of loving them.
We have the Best Chairs Benji. I gave myself a big budget for the chair and it was between this and the top-of-the-line Dutalier. We ultimately preferred the Best Chair. The Dutalier was great but I didn't care for the look of the one we liked sitting in.
We have the Costco Eliza glider. It looks and feels a lot like the Best glider I tried in the store, but it was only like $275. We sleep in it nightly and are very happy.
I'm not sure if they carry that one anymore, but the Rory and Dawson look similar.
I would not recommend purchasing from Babies R Us. I ended up getting a ridiculously good price, but they didn't submit the order initially and I got it months late. They seemed to have a lot of issues with the process throughout and their computer systems seem really out of date.
We have a Best swivel glider too and it's great. I bought it through a furniture store though because BBB and BRU both quoted me 12 weeks and the furniture store quoted 4-6 weeks.
Do not get the IKEA rocking chair. It slides all over the place when you are rocking.
The Poang? Totally agree. It sucks. Doesn't rock smooth, the seat is too deep, slides around, the wood arms aren't good for a flailing older baby (my ds has hit his head), etc.

We love our Best Chairs Benji! It glides, reclines, and swivels. Plus it's got a nice tall back so even I (6') can sleep in it. We ordered it from BBB with the 20% coupon and got a custom yellow fabric.
I splurged on a dutailier grand chair. It reclines, glides, and locks. Super comfy, tall back to rest my head. The cover comes off for washing. The glide is absolutely silent, great for our bedroom while DH is sleeping. I got it at BBB with a coupon (dutailier is 10% off, not 20).
I just ordered my second Charleston rocker from PBK. It converts to a regular chair once you no longer need a rocker. I love that feature of it. It also comes in performance fabrics now, which are amazing for spills, spit up, etc. It's very comfortable and holding up well, just like my other PB furniture.
I felt like we were doing it wrong, by not purchasing a glider. But now that DS is 2, I'm really thankful we have a basic leather armchair in his room. It's got a low profile and comfy sides, and will probably be used in his bedroom for many years. It wipes clean (so much reflux in his 1st year!), and will never look dated or too young. It doesn't show dirt which is another plus.
We added some color with a leather Moroccan pouf.
I'm sure rocking may have been a nice feature? But I lived without it and he did great in the armchair.
This is great - thanks for all the feedback! I need to decide on the nursery fabrics ASAP so I can get a chair ordered. There's never enough time for all the shopping I want to do!
