DS1 was home with me on ML with DS2. We did fine, had fun, it was enjoyable. Both DS1 and DS2 stayed in preschool/ daycare when I was on ML with DS3. Omg, what a difference! So much more bonding time, more relaxing (healing), and I wasn't burned out by the afternoon so I could really enjoy the older boys when they were home.

I wish DD1 was in preschool a couple days a week after DD2 was born. She started when DD2 was 11 months old and it was still so nice to get the one on one time with DD2 and to just have a break with only 1 kid!
I will say I would hesitate just a little to start him so close to the time the new baby arrives. Depending on how old he is and how he handles change that could be a hard transition. But I think this is a situation that would be fine either way.
I would prefer to start him now but there are no part time and affordable options in places that take children younger than 18 months (which will be July for him). So its start in September or wait a year.

Keep. Dd1 went to daycare full time while I was on leave with dd2. She was engaged during the day, kept on schedule, and was tired when she came home (aka actually listened to the rules and was calm with the baby). In turn I was able to cuddle dd2, had the option to be able to nap when she was and not worry about the older toddler's schedule, and feed myself on demand as nursing schedule dictated. So worth it. It was an additional $260/week for us, but it was great.
