That's great! I did 10 days of this (actually no grains at all, plus no dairy) last fall and although it was hard, it was wonderful. I lost 5 lbs and have kept it off plus lost a little more by keeping my intake all of those food groups to a minimum. I've been letting them creep back in slowly, though, and I need to reverse that.
That is amazing! Congratulations! The end of week three is when things got easier for me cravings-wise. If you're into baking, I've gotten handy with using alternate flours (rice, quinoa, almond, coconut) and sweetening with date paste. You can make some kid (and me) approved stuff, especially muffins and cookies.
I'm thinking after a couple of weeks of getting into the gym habit, we'll maybe look at what else to modify.
Have you thought about meeting with a nutritionist or have you already done that? Good for you about the gym. I used to NEVER workout and now I really hate it if I miss a day.

This has become true for me as well over the past year or so. Not if I miss one day, but I like to do 5 days a week, not missing more than one day in a row. If I do less than that, I start to feel it physically and mentally. That was never ever EVER the case for me before.

I see my dr on the 13th, and will get a referral to one was my thought, but thought this was a decent way to start. It helped to start w/the elliptical at home, and my thought is I'll keep doing that in the am and then weight lift in the evenings.
Your plan sounds good. I wish I had seen someone when I was pregnant with K and had GD. If you think about it, the diabetic diet is an ideal way to eat. If our insurance covers it, I would love to see a nutritionist to get me over this weight loss slump.

Ditto. about 6 weeks ago i started working out regularly and I just feel SO much better when I'm working out. I do miss the odd day, and I feel guilty when I do. I also feel a bit sluggish. But sometimes it's just not going to happen! I do free weights (usually a circuit of 3-5 things, 3 reps) and then 20-30 minutes of cardio.
Maybe something like this smoothie would satisfy the craving? I haven't tried this one yet, but I've tried others in the cookbook that this is from and they've all been good.
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high speed until smooth, 1 to 2 minutes. If the smoothie is too thick, add a little water and blend again until it reaches the desired consistency.
Really great job! Do you feel better? Seems silly to ask, because I'm sure that you do, but sometimes I feel better than even the scale is reflecting.
I feel a little better, not really much.(however I have an infected tooth that is to be fixed on the 12th, so I am thinking that will make a huge difference, and once done, I will be much better w/this whole deal.)Â
All in good time. It's still a great feat to have eliminated what you have!

this is what I'm hoping for. I feel kind of dragged down with this tooth thing I have going on, and it's been very hard to do anything at all, but I keep plugging. If I can do it all summer, I will have entrenched a good habit.
FWIW, it took a lot longer than 6 weeks for me. But your plan of doing it all summer is a great one. I bet it will happen by then.

If you're into dark chocolate it can help take the edge off. I allow myself 85% dark chocolate and berries. I also love grapefruit. Dark chocolate is low in sugar and high in fiber. I eat it daily.
Tell me more. When you say no sugar, how are you defining that? What does a typical day's menu look like for you?
I would love to try something like this but the thought of it is overwhelming.
Typical day:
Today: a sausage/egg/cheese casserole serving. (this particular brand of sausage is natural and has no sugar or other sweetening ingredients; the cheese and egg obviously have none.)and a bowl of steel cut oats with blueberries for flavor, about a quarter cup, and about an eigtht of a cup of milk. Lunch will be some tuna, and a large spinach salad w/hard boiled egg, and a cut up apple. Snacks if needed will be fat free refried beans and some no sugar added tortilla chips, and some berries; or hard boiled eggs, or fruit, or popcorn. Dinner will be roast beef and potatoes.
I'm using potato flakes for thickeners for gravy instead of flour; brown rice instead of white for chicken and rice.
I've had to watch for various 'thickeners' in stuff, as it is usually wheat based, and have no wheat bread or wheat pasta. We did try a quinoa pasta last week, that was really good, and have a rice pasta to try this week. I have to watch very carefully for sugars in everything, catsup, mayonaise, salad dressings, you name it it's in fucking everything.

This sounds fantastic. Not only are you eating healthier and all, but you're conscious of what you're putting in your body. That's half the battle right there. I wish I could break the mindless snacking habit. And you're so right about sugar -- and salt -- being added to every damn thing in the grocery aisles. Good luck going forward!
I hope you're on the cancellation list for your dentist, though. From now until 5/12 is a long time to go with an infected tooth. Hope it's not too painful. I suppose booze is no good on your diet?

I did no sugar for awhile, and I felt amazing. My mood was awesome ALL OF THE TIME. After the end of week three all of my cravings went away. I would look at a piece of cake and think, "There is no part of me that wants this."

I really don't do well w/alcohol; it makes me tired, and then I wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep. No cancellation list; I'm just on antibiotics till the appointment. I HATE all the antibiotics and the side effects, but there you are.
Make sure you're eating probiotic yogurt! Wait - does that have sugar? We drink this and it does www.yakult.co.in/whyyakult.php. All I know is that antibiotics wreak havoc on your gut bacteria. I wonder if plain yogurt works, too? Sorry, turns out I'm no help - lol.

Ooh, yes! I started taking a probiotic recently and I'm astounded at how much better I feel. I bought them by the ton for my mom when she was sick because she was on antibiotics all the damn time and the doctor rec'd them, and I didn't want to waste them after she died so I figured I'd take them until they're gone, but I"m a true believer now. My GI system is just ... happier now. This is the one I take.

So it is indeed possible to make a decent change with just diet.
this is incredible, and I am happy for you. I'm trying to add in more exercise for both weight loss as well as for the impact on insulin; apparently 30 min a day of moderate exercise, regardless of weight loss, can decrease insulin resistance by a significant sum, plus the increase in muscle mass as well does something similar.
Yup, you are absolutely right.
I definitely should be exercising and would benefit greatly from it, but I am lazy!
Because of my new office location, though, I do end up walking about 10 minutes to and from lunch, so I guess that's 20 minutes right there. LOL.
