The Baltimore thing is getting crazy! I am seriously scared of all these riots. How quick can this happen in my neighborhood! How quick can this happen at my school. I sit here thinking why did I bring a kid into this type of world!
The protests are scary. They are attacking people because they are white! Isn't this the same thing they are protesting?!
They aren't attacking people because they are white. The vast majority of protests have been peaceful, but what you are seeing is a community of people fighting back against repression, systemic racism, and abuse.

Oh, and because I'm pissed off, I'm going to also point out that you should be worried about raising your kid in this society, but not because people are protesting.
It should be because it is 2015 and these asshole cops severed this man's spine for looking at them and running. He had not committed any overt crimes, but they murdered him.
Just like cops around the US murdered dozens of black men for no other reason than being black.
It's disgusting and I think there is a real problem with anyone who looks at the protests and sees anything but an understandable result of years of ongoing oppression and hatred.

These cops were wrong yes. But a few bad apples should not ruin the whole batch. Its not fair to attack all police for things others did. There are black men killing police officers but there are no protests against that. I am not trying to start a debate.

Holy shit, your ignorance is astounding.
This is a systemic problem. It's not just a few bad apples.
And someone who kills a cop is prosecuted. (News flash - white people do it too.)
These cops are getting off with zero repercussions over and over again.
And you have white people marching down the streets with fucking semi automatic weapons on their backs and no one shoots them. No one shot Jared Loughner or James Holmes either.
Yet a black man holding a toy gun in the toy section of a Walmart is gunned down. And a twelve year old boy holding a BB gun is shot and killed. And unarmed black men are being shot in the back or choked on the pavement.

You're showing a real lack of understanding at the real issue here. There's violence, yes, and that's what the news is going to eat up and feed it's watchers. But the real issue is that there are police terrorizing, brutalizing and murdering unarmed young black males. And if that bothers you less than people protesting about that, then I just don't know what to say.

I didnt want to start a debate. I apologize. I may seem ignorant. I am not ignorant to the fact that there are bad things happening and they need to stop. I was mainly going for the this is very close to home. Agian. Didnt want to start anything.

The problem with your statement is that you're seeing the protests as the "bad" part, and not the cops murdering people and getting off scott free part.

Like i said. I was not trying to talk about why the protests were going in ot was more about the violence that was coming out of it. What the police did to that man is absolute bullshit and i am outraged why they received leave WITH pay!
I want you to go watch that video of the police dragging the boy into their vehicle whose spine they just severed and then tell me again who you are scared of.

The problem is, I daresay most people in this country agree with the OP.
If only protestors could just protest in that one small corner of town where no one can see them so they're not disrupting anyone. Yup, that'll make everyone stand up and take notice of the injustice!
I normally don't read the news and normally catch nbc... it went across my facebook. Stupid me.
The stuff on Facebook was mostly inaccurate and one sided. Everyone else has addressed what bothered me with your post, so I won't join the pile on.
I will say that I live less than a mile from where the violence broke out, and today carried on with my daily life. We biked to the harbor. I went to a local festival. I am not afraid. I am sad, sad about police brutality, sad a young man died needlessly, sad that a small group of people changed the message that was being sent to the world yesterday. The protests all week were mostly peaceful, and contained a really important message and I am very sad that won't be heard.
I love my city and hope to help in the fight for justice and equality.
