So I didn't end up purchasing on the SW sale last weekend and went in to HD today to buy four of five colors I had picked out. I only knew my color names, but it turns out Behr had come in this past week to replace all of their colors with new ones. HD was not able to pull up the names of the old colors. Luckily after about a 30 minute panic of going through piles I found my old swatches.
How often do they paint companies do this? There was zero warning between last weekend and today. There were so many confused people at the store today and the employees kinda seemed like we were the crazy ones.

What??? That sounds like a truly stupid move on their part. Usually when paint companies reformulate, they include the old colors in their new database for sake of people with old chips. It's ridiculous that they couldn't pull up the old colors at all.
Ugh, that sucks. IS it just the names that have changed, but the actual colors and numbers are the same? I hope so. I have a whole house full of behr, so who knows when I'll need some extra paint.

Nope, all new colors and numbers. My old paint standard was 700 something and now it's similar to 140A. Everything is new.
It was frustrating yesterday, but I found my old standards and got samples. I thought I had the perfect color, but once on the wall it flared very pink. I like warm undertones and usually go for more red than yellow but this was not good. Back to the drawing board.

It has been a gradual switch by Behr. Our HD did it last spring. We made color choices with the old paint chips, went to buy the paint, and everything had changed. Luckily since we had the paint chips, they could still use the code to make them (or however it works). I just kinda wonder why they don't do it all at once?

texassmith, that's exactly what happened to me except the did do all the colors at once. I couldn't find my original paint swatches (hubby "cleaned") but eventually did find them. Before that I asked if they could pull the old name up and they couldn't. I thought they would have a better transition plan than that!
Another GBCNer had given me great paint ideas for our new house. They were pretty much just what we were looking for. It was all Behr paint, and she sold the house, so I highly doubt she still has samples anywhere.

Other paint companies probably still have the old colors in their databases. SW can color match Behr with just a name, usually (although sometimes the match isn't exact, it's usually extremely close).
Your HD should have a book of the old swatches. We went to get moonrise this weekend and found it had all changed. Luckily, they still had the book for the old swatches and were able to formulate it.
I haven't put it up yet to see how well it matches to the rest of our moonrise.
