I moved into my new house in August and have spent the last several months buying furniture and decorating (I'm starting over after a divorce and walked away from a fully furnished house)
There are two things left that I need. Dining room furniture and patio furniture (outdoor couch, chair and table with 6 chairs). It's a large covered patio and I will spend a lot of time out there. The dining room is empty. I will probably only use it for holidays and special occasions. So I don't need the furniture any time soon, but the house looks half empty because it's on your right when you walk in open to the living room.
so the patio is the priority and I have $3,000. I found patio furniture that I really want that's $3,000 which obviously leaves nothing for the dining room. Today I found some other patio furniture that is nice but not as good of quality for $1,000 leaving money for the dining room.
I want to furnish both but I generally go for quality over quantity. Would you get the patio furniture you really wanted and wait on the dining room? It would take me about 4-6 months to save money for the dining room if I spent the $3k on the patio.

I would get the nicer patio set. You have time to save for the dining room before the holidays. And even if other things come up, I wouldn't worry about the dining room. Everyone understands starting over.
I'm bummed because I was supposed to have $4,500 for both but I have to take $1500 from the budget to go toward my new fence which I underestimated the cost of. Fences are so expensive!
It's hard to say for sure without seeing both sets (can you post links?), but I'm also inclined to say go with quality over quantity, especially with something that has to stand up to weather. Plus, it sounds like if you wanted to host the holidays this year, you would be able to save up enough for a dining room set by then. Although I would probably have a big late-summer party with your kick-ass new patio set, then not host the holidays this year. That gives you room to take your time finding a great dining set.
i would prioritize that patio set purchase, but unless this set is something you love love love and won't ever find anything comparable, i wouldn't pay full price today. patio sets will all be on sale in the next few weeks which leaves you plenty of time to still enjoy the summer outside.
I have a garage sale set in my dining room that my mom bought me for $60. Also a folding table with a floor length table cloth and some of those nicer wooden folding chairs could do as a cheap place holder (and nice to have down the line if you entertain at all)
Agree with heygrey that you might be able to get the patio set on sale. Also have you tried to find it second hand? I've noticed on my local fb that everyone is selling their patron sets right now as they buy new ones.
I would need to see the patio set. We got good quality couch, 2 chairs & coffee table for under $1k at Walmart if all places. I was skeptical in the beginning, but it is lasted several years. All we do is take the cushions and keep them in the deck box so that they're not in the weather all the time.
I would get the nice Patio set, but wait till a little later in the season. Patio sets actually go on sale pretty early the season, so you'd still get a half a season using your new patio furniture.
Do you really want the $3,000 one specifically, or do you just like it because of quality (and look)? If you're willing to buy something else, and are not dead set on that one, then I would suggest waiting until Memorial Day sales.
However, I don't think you need dining room furniture just yet if you don't plan on using it anytime soon. Who cares if it looks empty for now? 4-6 months is a drop in the bucket compared to however many years you plan to live in that house/own the furniture. And unless you plan to host Thanksgiving, I would wait for another holiday-sale (i.e. Black Friday?)

I would say get the set you want. Get the pieces you want as you can afford them, instead of going for less and regretting it down the line. It's a hard lesson I'm learning. I'm replacing pieces as I can for pieces that I love instead of tolerate
Many years ago, we fell in love with an expensive dining room table from Pottery Barn. We ended up finding the exact table on eBay for half price. It was brand new, but from the outlet, and only had some chips on the leaves. It was within a couple hours driving distance. So, if you have a specific table in mind, you could go the outlet, eBay or Craigslist route. Worked for us!
It's almost summer. You'll get more use from the patio set than you will from the dining room, I feel. It sounds like you have a kitchen table or somewhere else to eat. I'd hold off and get what you REALLY want for the patio and then get what you REALLY want for the dining room.
I really like that set. Of course a grocery store set isn't going to be great quality. I wouldn't spend $1000 on anything from a grocery store, and there's probably a fair amount of middle ground between the two. But with this set being from Costco, you have their excellent guarantee in place in case it doesn't hold up as well as it should. I would probably wait until the May sale ad comes out (which should be very soon) in case it goes on sale, and then go for it.
I'd get the patio set you want, but like others said wait until the Costco may ad comes out. You might get lucky
As for the dining room, unless you have your heart set on something, browse Craigslist and used furniture stores. I got my set (table, leaves, 6 chairs, buffet, and China cabinet) for $300 from someone redecorating. $40 for new fabric for the seats and I love it!

I really like the deep seating set from costco and think its a great deal.
I think the dining set is totally overpriced. It is only four seats and its pub height. the table is small. But I just loathe anything pub height so that might be my own personal bias.
Get the patio set you want since you will get the most use out of it. We bought a new house over a year ago and we really really need a dining room set but it's just not in the budget for a while. Don't feel like you need to furnish your whole house immediately. I'm eating on an Ikea table handed down from my little sister for the time being but I'd rather do that than settle for something I didn't really like.

I agree on the pub set, I might try to find another option. I wish they had a 4 or 6 seat regular table in that same style but all they have is 8 seats which I totally don't need It might fit IDK, but I really don't need 8 seats. It's just me and my son and guests on occasion.

I liked it because it matches
6 seat in the same style would be great, but I don't necessarily think it has to be matchy/matchy. How old is your son? Pub height sounds like it could be challenging for a little one. If he is older and he has friends over, he might appreciate 6-8 seats at the table. I don't know what the weather is like where you live and how much use you will get out of it.

He's 9, we live in a moderate climate and can get use of out of it probably 9 months out of the year. We also have an outdoor wood burning fireplace that I haven't used yet (b/c of no furniture) so it could potentially be an almost year round thing.
I would also prioritize the patio set, but I'd look on Craigslist first before buying anything new. There are a ton of dining sets and patio sets on my local CL right now.
Have you checked Lowes or Home Depot? I feel like we got a set very similar to your first link for cheaper. May be worth checking out...plus you can purchase via ebates.

I did check there, I really want a couch as part of the set but all I saw was love seats. Checked Target too

Have you checked in your local Costco? If they have the set, it will be cheaper since they include shipping on their website. Most of their stuff is website or store only but occasionally they will have something in the store that is online.
