I ran a 10k yesterday, and I guess my chip was defective, because I don't have an official time posted. I definitely crossed both timing mats (there were only two, at the start and finish). It wasn't a PR for me, so I don't care *that* much about it, but I'm wondering what the possible resolution is, if I email the race director. If you've had this happen to you, what did you do and how was it resolved? Is there some way for them to get my chip time, or is it probably a lost cause?
I've had this happen once before, and they somehow figured out my gun time and posted that as my result. That was a very small race, and the difference between gun and chip time was only about 10 seconds, so it wasn't a big deal. Yesterday's race had wave starts, and I wasn't in the first wave, so there would be a fairly significant difference between my gun and chip time.

Have you communicated with them yet? I ran a 10K last year where my time wasn't posted and it was a glitch and when I e-mailed them, they were able to pull my time with no problem.
If there are photos that show you crossing the start and finish line next to other bib #s, they can use those bib #s to give you an estimated start and finish time. I think that's reasonable to ask for.

I was going to suggest this also. When I checked my time for yesterday's race, the site had a "time corrections" button to hit that brings up the race director's email, so this must happen more often than Id think. Good luck, I hope you get it straightened out.

I just checked the results page again, and it looks like they added my gun time, so I guess that's their resolution. Womp womp. It's not a huge deal, but I'm supposed to send this time to the coach of my summer marathon program so he can use it as a basis for my pace group. Maybe I'll send him my garmin time along with a note that my chip for the race was defective, so my official results are incorrect.
I'll email the race director, too, but I'm not expecting much else at this point.

I would definitely do this. Actually, I would just send him an email stating my results. It's not like you're applying for Boston. lol Would he not just trust your word?

I'm sorry, though. That's really annoying.
LOL you're right. This was a very popular race for my running club, so I assume my coach will look at the results, so he may notice if I send him a time that's different. But I may be overthinking this.
I had it happen to me once. It was a PR for me at a 10K race and it was my first race that went under 50 minutes. They didn't change it. It was a long time ago and I didn't have a garmin to send them but I would have if I had had one. Good luck resolving it.

Ah, that makes sense. I would definitely follow up with an email, letting him know that the race screwed up.
It's frustrating when times are wrong, even if it's not a major race. I was wondering if there was a specific reason you wanted the time, and I see it's for your marathon coach.
I wouldn't bother emailing the race. I would email your coach with a simple note about a defective chip and note your garmin and gun time. Should be fine and then he can help you set training goals based on your correct result. Congrats on your race!
