Suggest a seat that's narrow like a Scenera, but a little more comfortable.
It also must be easy to install.
A friend watches him the days I work, and he's currently in a Scenera. Looking for a possible alternative. In our cars he's in a Britax, which is easy to install and cushy, but takes up too much space for her car, as she has more kids.
These spreadsheets have all the data. No Britax seat is 24". They are all 19-20.5". Most higher weight/more padded limit seats are around that width. The Scenera is 17.5. The Sureride is 18.5. It's not really more padded.
For FFing, you could look at the Harmony Defender combination seats. For convertibles, the Radian, and the Fllo. They are all around 17" wide. The Graco clones are more padded and 18.5" wide (MySize, Headwise, etc.).
I loved installing the Diono Radian RXT last week. it's heavy as hell, but easy to install. my friend said her girls love their Radians, and she has them 3 in a row (2 yo FF, and 8 month old RF) in her Ford Explorer. so pretty narrow. it's one of the narrower convertibles I saw.

Sorry to but in. Have you heard anything about the Defender being discontinued? I've been looking for one per your recommendation, and they're out of stock everywhere it seems. Amazon has one in a funky color that twice as expensive as the listed price everywhere else it's out of stock.
other options: you could do a Clek Foonf or Fllo, but they have smaller maximum weight restrictions, and the Combi Coccoro as well, but it is TINY height-wise. here is CarseatLady's guide to narrow seats: thecarseatlady.com/fitting3across/

how big is your kid?
The Foonf and Fllo have a RFing limit of 50 lbs and a FFing limit of 65 lbs. The RFing limit is one of the highest, and the FFing one is pretty standard.
oops, sorry, I was thinking of the Coccoro when I typed that. listen to fivedogs, she's been doing this a lot longer than me.

We have Radians. They are heavy but very narrow (we used to have three across in a Camry) and are a good seat as the child grows since they convert to boosters. We will actually use all of the car seat life with the Radians. I never used one RF though, which I imagine you are still doing.
