Concerns over protests have prompted several businesses in downtown Baltimore, such as T. Rowe Price, to close early Monday afternoon.
University of Maryland Baltimore Campus has announced it will be closing at 2 p.m.
"Due to reports from the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) concerning scheduled activities today beginning at 3 p.m., UMB will close today at 2 p.m. at the recommendation of the BPD," the university posted on its website. "These activities may be potentially violent and UMB could be in the path of any violence. The safety of our students and employees is of paramount importance please vacate the campus as soon as possible."
MORE CLOSINGS:
T. Rowe Price also told its employees to vacate the office at 2 p.m.
Lexington Market will close at 3 p.m.
Mondawmin Mall Maryland in 2401 Liberty Heights Ave. has also closed.
BB&T Bank branches in downtown Baltimore have also decided to close early.
My MIL works in one of the big buildings downtown and just got evacuated. I had to step away from my local board because I can feel that somebody is about to piss me the fuck off and I'm actually on a conference call.
This is where I am. It's also not the first time the BPD has made this claim. From the Sun, reported by Gawker:
In December, the Baltimore FBI office issued a memo that the Black Guerrilla Family gang was targeting “white cops” in Maryland, an agency spokeswoman confirmed.
The memo, circulating among officers, said a contact who had given reliable information in the past said members of the gang — connected to the high-profile corruption scandal at the Baltimore City Detention Center — were planning to target white officers to “send a message.”
And in January, police were on heightened alert after a man brought a gun into the Northeastern District police station with a handgun and said it was part of a “security test” ordered by the BGF.

I've been texting my (former) neighbor and friends who work at UMMS and they've said it's been tense but manageable over the last several days. Citizens angry at police but not each other. No word what it's like today.
I understand the protesting. I even understand the anger at the cops and (unfortunately) the desire to act out towards the cops. I don't understand the looting. Can anyone explain the motivation behind it? I'm asking genuinely.
