Be on the lookout for babies! I had to dog sit my best friend's dog for a few weeks because they had an infestation of rattlesnakes in their neighborhood. She had four in her yard, one of which was a baby trying to squeeze in her doggie door
Ok it's things like this that make me think spending 7 months of the year being cold isn't so bad. Because I would keel over and die if I ever saw anything like this in/around my house. Nope, Nope, nope.

I hate to break it to you. I grew up in northern NYS and we had rattlesnakes up there, too. So rattlesnakes and snow. Boo. Lol

LOL! Yeah, every area highlighted on this map, has some sort of rattlesnake. They're everywhere.
True but the Timber rattlesnake is critically endangered where I am. So at least the chance of randomly coming across one is low.
Well there you go! Good news!
Apparently the people who are truly screwed, are the people who have overlap. The article I pulled that from, was discussing the possibilities of some weird, super venomous, hybrids that could happen in those areas. I'm in NE FL....which appears to just BARELY not have an overlap, but this map fails to show pygmy rattlesnakes, which are our most common venomous snake. SO.

Ugh, the map. I live in the overlap of western diamondback and Mojave rattlesnake. But we also have a shit ton of sidewinders and red diamond rattlesnakes. Not to mention all of the non-venomous, but still bitey snakes. And scorpions. And black widows. And mothereffing wind scorpions. Deserts, man.

We have a lot of big ass spiders here. Last summer, I had to stop my car to let a big lizard cross. Except it wasn't a lizard. It was a tarantula.

I have a friend in rural AZ. Once she told me the story of a bull snake sticking its head out of the toilet and I knew I was done with deserts. Nope, never, not gonna happen.

There was a "Highway to Heaven" episode with a snake in a toilet. Scarred for life. Can't remember anything else about that series besides that.
