My house is always a mess because of having kids destroying it as fast as I clean it up. It makes me feel so bad about myself. Just a quick phone call with a warning would be nice. I can work miracles in 5 mins.
I really don't think I'd answer the door if someone stopped by unannounced. This has only happened once, on a Sunday morning. It was a friend of mine dropping off something I had talked to her about borrowing, and she happened to be nearby. I forget what I was doing, but for some reason I feel like I was giving the dog a bath. DH answered the door shirtless. I think she was scarred for life.

FIL just stopped by with our niece and her hubby and they just walked in. I was looking around my house like a crazy lady for my other shoe. I needed to run out and get milk for the baby before nap time.

I hate drop-ins. IMO, nothing says, "I don't give a shit about your plans or schedule," like just showing up at someone's house for a visit. I just don't understand why it's so hard for some people to give a quick call or text - at least give me 5 minutes notice!

Like, they didn't knock?!?!?!?!?!
They knocked on the door as they were opening it. :/ it was weird and random. FIL comes over every day because of work and he has never done that before. Maybe she was just excited to see us.
Today it is because FI is working on the house so he's in and out. But I know he didn't tell them to come in because they asked where he was. He's in the attic working.

One of my friends is notorious for just popping by and letting herself in. Drives me insane. DH always leaves the front door open (we have clear storm door too) and I swear these people in my house don't know how to lock a door.

Now that we live in a 4 flat in Chicago, neighbors pop in to drop off mail delivered wrong, etc.. My house is an open floor plan, and I work from home so most people try to see if I will answer. Door is always locked and I'll hide in one of the side rooms if I'm not dressed or up for conversation.

That's not just dropping by, that's bordering on B&E!
The last time my in laws stopped by without calling I swore when I saw them in the driveway. DS2 was 5 at the time and he went outside and told them that mommy just said some really bad words because they were there.

Before I met my h, I had given a friend a key to my place in case I got locked out, etc.
I worked midnights at the time and also had a part time job a few days a week. My house wasn't always in great shape.
Imagine my surprise when I got home one morning and a random sweatshirt was on my couch.
A friend of my friend was in town (I barely knew this other person) and she brought the random to see my house ( which was not even close to company ready). Then she couldn't understand why I was upset or asking for my key back.

That is annoying.
My H and I laid down the law when we had ds, we asked that all visits be scheduled and we wouldn't accept drop ins. My in laws tried it once and we didn't open door, the knocked for like two minutes.
We always keep the door locked even if we are home.
Yeah... my MIL stopped by the other day with our 5 year old niece in tow. Niece walked into our house and was immediately like, "It's messy in here." Thanks, kid.
Is this weird? The door is always unlocked when we are home, unless we are sleeping.
We leave our door unlocked if the weather is nice (meaning I had a reason to open the front door). I also leave the garage open a lot of the time in nice weather since we are in and out. I live in a pretty populated area, but apparently I live on the edge
