Just booked it for July. I've been there twice a while ago, but I did mostly beach activities. Any recommendations on different things to do/see? I'm thinking about the rainforest--I think they have tours/trips? I love snorkeling, but my bf does not. I know they have a castle of some sort..any experience with that?
We visited each of the forts in San Juan. Waked around Old San Juan; You can take a bus around the city. I think it's free or very cheap (I forget).
We also rented a car and drove to El Yunque Rain Forest and hiked to La Mina Falls. Many many steps, but wear a bathing suit and you can go swimming at the bottom of the falls.
We also stopped by Loquillo Beach after the rain forest and had lunch/drinks at one of the many food kiosks.

Forts! Ok, I will check them out. I have been to the delicious food kiosks in luquillo and will definitely go again. We are renting a car, so I think we will see el yunque.
I agree with the above poster that Vieques is amazing. I'd stay there if I were to go back though - not just a day trip.
Did you do the bio bay tour on your last trip? That's a must for trips to PR!
I have not done the bio bay tour. I will definitely look into that, thanks!
We did a bio bay tour on Vieques with East Island Adventures and it was amazing!! At the time it was the only area where you could still swim in the bio bay and it was like liquid glitter. Such a highlight of our trip!!
^^^ All of these reco's are spot on. Vieques is definitely worth an overnight or two. Rent a car there and drive around to all the secluded little beaches, plus do a bio bay tour there.
El Morro is lovely. I also love just walking around old San Juan.
Luquillo and El Dorado beaches are beautiful.
Love El Yunque rain forest (have always gone on my own, not familiar with tours that go there).
If you like roast pig, I would also recommend renting a car and driving the "Routa del Lechon" (Suckling Pig route" through the Cordillera Central in the middle of the island. It's about an hour & change drive from San Juan.
We are going in June! I'm from PR so I have seen all the sights but we are still.doing a mini hike at El Yunque and taking the kids to El Morro. I have a super long list of places I want to eat at since I miss the food so much.

Awesome! One of my coworkers stayed there last year and loved it too. She said the 24 hour pool was great. When are you going? ETA-you can pm me if you don't want to say when publicly.
lilles, any awesome restaurant recs? I love, love, love the food there. I ate at some place in luquillo that made mofongo with sweet plantain...I must find that place again!
@blueyes623 my favorite meals in PR were at Marmalade (Old San Juan, $$$ but soooo worth it), Pasta y Pueblo in Luquillo (amazing and affordable, not a kiosk, a shack that's hard to find) and La Estacion in Fajardo.

We are going to PR next week - I made a reservation at Marmalade. Anything you'd recommend to look for?

Jealous! It was amazing. I normally never have dessert - I don't have a sweet tooth but I had a chai icecream something on the recommendation of the waiter and it was amazeballs.
Also go read the 1 star reviews on Trip Advisor. Chef Peter responds to most of them and is really snarky and funny.
