I tried the KT tape pre-cuts last night on the top of my foot after washing it and putting a layer of hairspray on, but no matter what I did the ends would not stay down. My feet tend to run warm to begin with so I have my doubts that it will stay put when I start running if it wouldn't stay put after putting it on and just walking around.
How is your foot feeling by the way? I pulled something in the top of my foot two days ago battling my 7 year old at bedtime. Hope you are feeling better !

Rock tape is the best! I had to order it online from Amazon because I coundnt't find it around me and it came today and it's awesome.... no issues with it not sticking. I taped my foot and I am planning on running tomorrow.. My foot is doing okay. I did almost 10 miles on 5/2 (stopped due to sneaker/sock issues that lead to a huge blister on my heel) and then I ran twice while I was away last week with no major issues. I didn't run over the weekend because I was very run down from my trip

My boss is RockTape certified or whatever, so she tapes athletes for big competitions and what not. She alway recommends getting taped 12-24 hours before you need it, and leave it on for 2-3 days. It has been AWESOME for me and definitely stays put. If an end starts to peel or fray, she said to just clip it off. There's also a prep spray she uses before she applies the tape to help.
Ditto rock tape. My PT recommended it when I had IT band issues and needed to tape for a few weeks.
brooke77, was it easy to learn how to tape for IT band yourself? I am 2 weeks out from a half and have had to stop short on my last 2 long runs after 4 miles because of IT band pain. I am resting now and doing stretches, rolling, etc. and was thinking of trying taping it when I do get back out there. I will continue with strength training, etc. but for now I just want to make it through my half pain free! I am going to head back out for a trial few miles after 3-5 days off. The rock tape is not sold by any of my LRS so I'll have to order online.
labbie - yes, it was actually really easy to tape it myself. My PT did show me where/how to tape, but it was pretty basic. I was surprised at how supportive the tape felt.
My IT pain and tightness did not go very far up my hips, and was extremely concentrated on my kneees, so I personally taped my knee to about 6 inches up. It will really vary based on your injury.

Thanks- my injury seems very localized to the outside of my knee after a few miles of running, and thankfully seems like I caught it very early. I have no pain after running or during other activities. I'm hoping with a few days off I can ease back into it and make it through my half.

I have rock tape too, it's worked well for me although I've only used it a few times. They have videos on their site, I used it on the outside of my knee as support after I did a particularly hilly and painful 15k, it was like miracle tape and stayed on for a few days even with showering.
