I'm keeping this vague but will post more details if it works out.
I haven't run more than 10 miles in my life. I haven't walked more than 5 miles at one time in about, oh, 5-6 years.
Please tell me I won't die if I do a 15 mile leg of a trail run this weekend that is part of another event that is a bucket list thing for me. It would probably be broken up 7ish miles other person, 7ish miles me, 7ish miles other person, 7ish miles me. The trails are moderately hilly and well used. I have comfy walking/running shoes that I was fitted for. Even though they aren't trail shoes, they would be fine for this event. Time isn't important, finishing is the only goal.
*This may/may not work out. I may/may not do this, so, we'll see. I'm trying to work on some details. (It really MAY NOT happen. I'm not sure yet.)
You probably won't die. There might be times when you wish that you would, but you probably won't. It's going to hurt, but you can complete it, yes.
This. You can do it
Team this. Trails are a totally different animal- if hills are big, part of my "race" strategy is to walk anyway so you have that down. As for the rest of it, since it's a bucket list thing I say definitely go for it!
Pop a couple ibuprofen before, do a walk/jog combo, and take more ibuprofen after. You won't die! It sounds fun! You know you are in great cardio shape already.
When people say you will be sore, they're putting it mildly. You won't die, though. You might not be able to walk for a few days afterward.
This. My first half ever I "trained" by running up to maybe 3 miles beforehand. I was incredibly sore, but I still felt an awesome sense of accomplishment! I think you should do it - it'll be worth it!

This is exactly when I'd utilize an interval method too... run 10 mins, walk 1 min or something like that. It makes long distances SO much more manageable for me-plus you can put an interval timer app on your phone so it will tell you when to walk/run, then you just tune out and listen to music in the interim. You can do it!

Noooo no ibuprofen before you run/bike/swim/whatever. Tylenol instead.

Really? Why? I have always been a big fan.
Bad for your kidneys and your GI tract. It inhibits some stuff and causes blood to be redirected from your kidneys and you really need your kidneys to be well perfused when you're damaging muscles with strenuous workouts, so it predisposes to kidney failure. They also think now that maybe it can potentiate the minor damage that happens to the GI mucosa.
The person rides a mile, runs a mile, rides a mile, runs a mile. She says it's a lot easier for her. So, we'll see what happens if she is able to do the event (there are some things going on w/her that she is HOPING to do the event this weekend.) Her horses sound lovely!

I think that's pretty common. A couple people I've talked to do it that way. Also minimizes the time the horse spends tied any one place so they can't get into too much mischief. Just hope you aren't short/the horse isn't tall or you've got some killer ups, because that's a lot of mounting and dismounting.
Related but not really - just that you'll appreciate it: my sister has horses. Except her horses are fancy dressage ponies, so not so much with the trail riding. She recently looked at an adorable little 14 hand half arab - sturdy enough to carry me (my sister is tiny and can ride bitsy little ponies), but short enough for easy peasy mounting - and dressage FEI level something or other trained. I was like, 'OMG PERFECT I CAN FINALLY MAKE YOU DO r&t WITH ME!" and she laughed.
I was like, "ummm, you know I'm serious right? The second you have something in your barn that isn't a giant warmblood or a teeny little german riding pony I'm dragging your ass back into the woods where you started." But she's selling the farm so my dream is dashed. Still holding out for my Aunt to have something she's comfortable tying and running away from. (she likes to buy project ponies, get some time/training on them doing the local show circuit and then sell them to a pony clubber...I have yet to catch her during R&T season with something that isn't a bit crazy)
I actually know somebody who does R&T on a giant draft cross though. (did? I think she still rides a draft cross. Probably not the same one I knew in high school though...) It was amazing watching that horse among all the little whippy Arabs at R&T's held in conjunction with an endurance ride. She was like a different species. She was trained for cross county/fox hunting and would just go up/over/through anything they pointed her at. I have no idea how they got on on the trail though. She was enormous. Feet like iron soup bowls.

A R&T is on my bucket list, but it looks like this one isn't going to work out. The horse owner has a conflict, but that's ok. She's going to keep me in mind for next year's R&T. There are only a couple in the south. She seems really nice! Her horses are about 14.3hh-a MFT (Missouri Fox Trotter) and an Arab/Saddlebred cross, who is a bit "spunky." The MFT is about 20, has been doing R&T for ages, knows her riders for the day, and will whinny when she see her daily riders (even her owner's guest rider) to let you know she's ready to go. So cute! I could not imagine trying to get on a draft cross without a mounting block...
I am more used to riding the fancy jumping ponies (ok, big Thoroughbreds and Warmbloods), but I can and will ride anything. I lurve me some fancy jumping warmbloods! I miss riding horses....maybe tuggyruns and I can go ride sometime.
Mmmm...German Riding Ponies! I can just see the GRP trying to piaffe on the trail or spooking--OMG WHAT IS THAT FUZZY THING ON THE HORSE'S BACK--referring to endurance riders' love of ALL.THE.FLEECY.THINGS on their tack and for good reason. Fleecy things=no rider or horse chafing.
Oh man, my old endurance saddle was the best thing ever. It was entirely covered in sheepskin. I could ride in a bathing suit if I was so inclined and not chafe ever. My horse was a mostly-arab (supposedly full arab...but he didn't have papers and he had a quarter horse butt and kind of a blocky head for a full arab) originally used as a cow pony and had the greatest smooth jog that just floated down the trail. It was like riding 50 miles on a plush recliner. Except that if he saw a horse in front of him or we started going up a hill would take off into a full gallop...and he was FAST too. But crazy sure footed so I'd just let him fly down all kinds of awful trails and he'd just pick his path and GO. And he never spooked. Except at flappy paper (no maps!).
Unfortunately, this Ride and Tie isn't going to work out, but I've made some great contacts. I'm hopeful that I can do one in the next year. There aren't too many in the Southeast, but there is one in SC in the fall. We'll see; I hope so! Everyone I've talked to this week has been so nice and really wants to bring new people into it! One of the guys said they have a hard time finding runners/athletic people that also know how to ride. So that's perfect for me!...

We have a couple out here in NorCal. Just saying...

There are several in VA, would you drive up that far?
I'm going to be poking at the contacts I have to find myself a partner with a horse for next season as soon as I'm in reasonable enough shape post baby to sound convincing when I say I can do a R&T - I can mention that I also have a friend....or I might find somebody who just has a spare horse and then I could be your partner.
