I wear sleeveless dresses with a sweater or cardigan. However, schools usually don't have air conditioning and I get soooo hot sometimes I HAVE to take my sweater off or I would lose my mind. I do not wear spaghetti straps or tube tops to work! LOL!
I think a lot of it depends on the type of company you're at plus whether you are seeing customers daily.
We have an extremely relaxed dress code where I work. Our company culture is pretty laid back. Our top execs don't even wear ties. In the summer time we can wear capris, bermudas (guys wear shorts), and sleveless tanks. I would never wear a spaghetti strap style tank without something like a cardigan to cover. We can also wear flip flops.
I don't ever see any customers. I work at corporate. I'm in my office all day so I'd rather be comfortable in the clothes I wear than super dressed up.

ya, in my industry you'd be laughed out of the office if you were wearing a tie. the only time I've ever worn a suit was when I was visiting banks for a customer visit in NYC. over half of the office is in shorts/flip flops this week . in general, though, customers are never in our offices. and the tech industry is somewhat of a different beast.
