I've never been a cop and I understand that it's a difficult job. I just really don't understand how a good cop can stand by and defend the reprehensible actions of a bad cop. In my line of work, if I see someone seriously screwing up I report them, I don't defend them. I don't understand why this is such a foreign concept.
I get a facepalm because I think cops should be holding each other accountable, not just blindly defending each other?
I really don't understand what his police record has to do with anything. Do people who spout that shit really think that the cops take the time to pull up everyone's record prior to pursuing them? It doesn't excuse the fact that they chased him, arrested him for dubious reasons (ahem, for being black and walking down the street), and then proceeded to mistreat him to the point that HE DIED.
Stop it with the "but he has a record" BS.
People bring it up to justify his murder, so that they can feel better about NOT feeling bad about his death.
100% the police were wrong in Baltimore, they are awful cops. There are also good cops out there. But don't you think it's possible that the cops feel justified in the way they treat black people after they riot like this? It's like "see, this is why we do it, because they are criminals" I'm not saying I agree with that thinking, I don't. I think everyone was wrong in Baltimore. The guy for getting in trouble in the first place (please know, that no matter what he did, he did not deserve what happened to him), the awful cops for murdering him, and the rioters. I just feel like violence and destruction of your community aren't the answer.
For starters, I want to jump on the "fuck you, iteach" train because, yeah, fuck you.
So....what you're saying is that black people are criminals? Are we lumping in all the lovely ladies from this this board, too? What about the black husbands of the women on this board? Criminals based on the color of their skin? Or just assumed criminals? You know, because black people are criminals, right? Do you even realize what a fucking flaming racist you sound like here? I mean, I know lots of people who feel that way based on the number of black people who have told me they're followed in stores because they're assumed to be stealing, or they were pulled over for the mere crime of driving while black, or black kids stopped on the street because they're wearing a hoodie and walking home in the dark. Oh, and they run from cops (I wonder why they do that even when they know they're not doing anything wrong?). I guess what I'm saying is that it looks like you agree.
Cops are not judge nor jury. They are law enforcement and are expected to treat every citizen with respect. Full stop. Doesn't matter the crime they are *accused* of (remember we are all innocent until proven guilty, right?). They don't get to feel "justified" in treating anyone with anything less than professionalism. THAT is their job. There is protocol when the situation merits it, but the overarching point is that cops are law enforcement, not the people who decide how people are punished for *alleged* crimes. They also have lots of rules they have to follow (you know, the constitution and all) and should be held appropriately accountable when those rules (laws!) are broken.
I also feel like it needs to be said: Not all cops act like this. Possibly not even all Baltimore cops. They should not all be painted with the same brush, which is what I think you're doing with that sentence so along with the "fuck you, racist" paragraph above, I will say "fuck you" for the broad brush you paint cops with.

You got face palmed because you oversimplified the problem. 6 cops are charged- 2 of color, 4 young on the force and 2 very senior with the death of Freddie Gray This isn't a case of a few bad apples. It is a case of systematic racism within law enforcement. There isn't a cop to point out if most of the cops feel the same way. I read a link posted on here that basically said many cops are actually afraid of black men and another that said society sees black people as older than they are. This is a problem because it means that the black community is predisposed to be treated more violently by cops. This isn't something to tell HR and deal with. This is a deep routed problem that requires change from within, forced by the outside.
You know what? Sure, let's talk about his record. Drug possession. Possession with intent to distribute. Burglary. Illegal gambling. More possession.
Do you see a violent crime on there? Do you see rape? Do you see murder? Do you even see a simple assault?
So he sold drugs. That's bad, yes, drugs are bad and against the law. Yes. But what else was a kid with intellectual disabilities from lead poisoning, raised by a heroin addict, in one of the shittiest neighborhoods this country has to offer, going to do? What were his other opportunities? What were the other career paths available to him? What other skills do you think he was able to acquire in this short life of his?

To put it in perspective, this could easily be the rap sheet of a very wealthy, bored, frat boy.

Hell, could be the rap sheet of many, many GBCNers. And a good number of my IRL friends. Some that even live/have lived in Baltimore. Some even in areas iteach would freak out about driving through. Some that have even been out on the streets participating in peaceful protests over the last 2 weeks. But those are white so the cops treat them like humans.
Hey @iteach, have you ever bothered to read the Bill of Rights beyond the 2nd Amendment? Did you get your education in Texas, by any chance?
I'm mad I got tagged in this shit so I had to read this shit. Fuck @iteach plus you're a coward who can't face the shitstorm generated by your ignorant racist comments.
