Because, yes, from what I usnderstand your flight booking and I.D. are supposed to MATCH match. Like no "Jane Smith" if your DL is actually "Sarah J. Smith".
You need to provide your passport or get an updated license - regardless of cost or time. You shouldn't have left the DMV with an incorrect license. I'm assuming you became liable for the cost of a replacement when you left the building. In my state you are asked back up to the counter once your license is printed, and are told to verify that it's accurate. (Unless you got it in the mail?)

It was at the counter that we argued and they wouldn't fix it. I fought endlessly and wasn't going to walk out of there with anything. I called management later and got nowhere. I'll obviously get it resolved even if I have to pay for it now. But I don't have time for the issue at hand.
A passport is a legal ID. You can fly domestically using that instead of a drivers license. I'd just do that if I were you.
I just noticed passport says "Given Name" and has my first name/ maiden name and then it says Last Name. So how would you enter that on the flight info? Your first name and maiden name and married name??
Your passport (assuming it's a US passport) should have your first, middle, and last name listed somewhere, in that order. Put exactly that on your plane ticket. If your maiden name is listed elsewhere, leave it off.
I actually never got a passport in my married name (just kept booking flights under my maiden!) so I'm sorry, I'm not of any further help beyond that But I've looked at a bunch of passports for employment purposes and every one of them has listed their legal name clearly on the page, so I hope that's how yours is too!

hmm. yes, it is a US passport. but it doesn't just list my full name. It's "given name" and then "surname" on different lines. I'll call just to confirm I'm doing this right.
Oh, I was wrong anyway lol. They are not in that order on a passport. Your last name is your surname. Then your given name should be your first name and middle name. Is your middle name your maiden name? If not, I'm not sure why your maiden name is listed on there at all.

There's no reason you can't use your passport as ID. Book the ticket using the same name on your passport (given/first name, sur/last name). And if you need a new license because of the address change anyway, then is it worth trying to fight the DMV over not paying the fee?
I have no advice, but I look at drivers licenses daily. I've noticed this problem a lot. Our new licenses kind suck in the name department. I thought it was stupid that they only have "Last name" and "First name" but then you have the middle somewhere in there with out it's own category. Stupid.
And don't get me started on the employees at DMV. It just depends on who you're lucky enough to get and if they actually know what they're talking about.

haha I've tried that!! The DMV claimed that they no longer issue new ID's for address changes. They simply changed my address in their system. I thought this was crazy but they did the same for DH!
EDIT: flight is booked and I'll have to use my passport.
Huh? In many states, you can get an additional fine attached to a moving violation, etc if your license does not list your current address.

they're supposed to have you fill out a little brown card like this
If you don't have one of these, police could ticket you. Fix it ticket for like $15, I think.

When you have time, can you make an appointment (or just show up) with your current incorrect license, proof of correct name, and get a new license? I mean, I dont see how they can tell you that you can't get a new license when the current one does not have your name on it. I dont understand how or why they wouldn't have fixed it initially, or why you left knowing it was wrong?
