If you have an IKEA couch, how is the quality? I'm looking at the Ektorp. I like that you can get slip covers that aren't very pricey. With a toddler and 2 dogs it would be nice to be able to switch out the slip covers.
I LOVE my Ektorp. We've had it since 2006. I've replaced the slipcovers a few times. We have white now. I like that I can bleach it- they last about 1.5-2years before I need to replace the slipcover- even bleach doesn't work at that point.
But the white slipcovers are only $49 for the couch and $39 I think for the loveseat.
Its a really comfortable couch, has done ok with moving it 4 times, and I would buy it again in a heartbeat!
Ditto Elsa, we've had the couch for 10 years, and the loveseat for 7, they've been through multiple moves and are still super comfortable. I haven't ever replaced the slipcovers, but I wash them about once a year and they hold up really well too.
Sorry I should have clarified. I bleach the covers about once a month. Sometimes more often in rainy months. I love the was they smell when they are clean- bleached and hung in the sun to dry. Its the best!
We have 2 kids and 3 dogs...Ektorp is the BEST! I also have the white and just bleach and go. It has changed my life...I don't worry about our furniture at all anymore. I have 3 sets of slipcovers.

We have one and love it. We have 3 rowdy boys, 3 dogs and 2 kittens. It has far surpassed my expectations! And washing the slip covers hasn't been a problem at all, I'd say we do them every 1-2 months.
We have a couch and love seat. I can't remember the style. It doesn't have slip covers. The quality is good though and it has survived several moves and is still in good shape.
Just adding that I fall asleep on our Ektorp most Friday nights. It isn't too low or deep so isn't a pain to get up from. We've had ours since 2009? Original tan slipcover.
Eta: this post makes me feel less bad about getting a new cover. Time to replace, thinking gray but the white comments are tempting.

our pup approves- she does drool when she sleeps
We have two, they have survived this for nearly 4 years and just DH for 2 before we got the pup. They have a 10 year warranty on the couch part (not cover) I did get a second "guest" cover set last Fall so I didn't have to wash and dry in the same day on short notice of an incoming MIL visit. Our original covers are 100% cotton washable ones and they still look fine as long as the pup hasn't been near them - all bets are off once she gets on the couch. Last I checked the red and white are the only two still made like our original ones. the newer gray set has some polyester- is machine washable. I stick them in the dryer on low. There are a few of the colors that said dry clean.

I am thinking about purchasing the Ektrop couch too. How hard was it to put together? And does anyone have the version with the chaise? I think it looks pretty comfy but I don't know if it would be a pain with moving it and if it would make it less versatile.
