Happy Friday! I just finished listening to The Family Man by Eleanor Lipman. Nice and light, I loved the characters so I'll definitely be listening to more of her books. I'm reading Landline by Rainbow Rowell. It's a very unique plotline and I am liking it a lot so far.
QOTW: Mother's Day is rough for me, as is every day without my Mom. The Hallmark holiday rubs salt in the wound for a few extra days this time of year. In her honor, tomorrow morning I'm going on an early trail run. Tomorrow afternoon houseguests arrive for the night so that will be fun. Looking forward to a bikeride on Sunday and then a local festival and concert Sunday night, along with some festival food. Mmmm...funnel cake :-)
I'm reading the Interestings by Meg Wolizer. Easy to read so far, interested to see where it goes.
It's supposed to rain all weekend. We have a soccer game on Sat, then to a friends house for dinner. I have a massage on Sun. Will probably watch a movie with the boys and maybe have my parents over for dinner.
I'm in the middle of You by Caroline Kepnes but it's starting to feel really long and is getting kind of boring. I might return it can't decide:/ I have a few other books checked out but I'm just not feeling anything at the moment.
QOTW: We're having lunch with my family and then I'm not really sure. Probably just hang out. Pretty sure my DH has totally dropped the ball this year.
I'm reading A Storm of Swords and listening to The Shawshank Redemption. Both are good. Shawshank is pretty short, though - much more than I would have expected given the movie.
QOTW: I sent my mom's gift last weekend and have since forgotten that Sunday is Mother's Day, so no special plans.
I just started A God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson. I like her writing, but I'm not far enough to tell more than that.
QOTW: I will see my mom next weekend, but I sent a card and will call. DD made some things at school for me. They had a sub today so I hope it all comes home still. I requested a dinner I didn't have to plan or cook sometime this weekend.
Interesting story about the creator of Mother's Day: time.com/3850790/anna-jarvis-mothers-day-origin/ She picked the anniversary of her mother's death to honor her and was strongly opposed to the commercialization of the holiday.
I am rereading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I'm enjoying it.
QOTW this is my first mother's day mom and I wanted a relaxing day. I didn't want to have to run all around visiting other people. So in the afternoon we are having my parents over and we'll be getting takeout. My husband is planting all my flowers for outside for me. and the other thing I really wanted is to not have to do dishes at all on mother's day.

I'm between books, but will maybe get started on Order of the Phoenix.
QOTW: My mom, sister and I are having lunch and getting massages tomorrow. I got her cow-print wine glasses. Sunday, I will celebrate with my family, which hopefully means I will get to lounge around in the morning while H takes the kids to get me Starbucks.
I'm reading A Desperate Fortune by Susanna Kearsley. I like all her stuff, but I don't think this one will be my favorite (that honor probably goes to the Winter Sea).
My mom and stepfather are visiting this week and we're going out to dinner tomorrow for a combined celebration of my birthday/mother's day.

This is so interesting- I had no clue.
"...commemorating her for the matchless service she renders to humanity in every field of life"
