We will head to orlando in December for a combo Chrismas family visit and then drive to miami to see a football game (dh's christmas present is the colts game down there).
We will have a saturday night in Miami, the game sunday and then monday morning/afternoon before taking a late flight out.
We'll rent a car so we can get around. I don't think Decemeber will be true beach weather but I would like to see South Beach.
We are just starting to figure this out so any hotel and food recs appreciated.
Versailles is great, but if it seems too out of the way from wherever you're staying, just make it a priority to get a reco for a good Cuban place. There are many good ones in Miami. Unfortunately, there are also many so-so and bad ones. It would be sad if you went to one of the so-so or bad ones.
Will you be in the Miami airport at all? There's a Versailles outpost there and I love popping in to get a guava pastry, a ham croquette and a Cuban coffee before I board my plane (or as soon as I've landed in Miami).
If you go to South Beach, check out the Clevelander.

We will fly out of Miami.
I want to at least travel over to south beach on sat night to see what we can see. We need to figure out where we want to stay in relationship to the stadium and our budget. We mighr have some free nights to cash in by then so we'll see how it works.
