I'm going to be giving a talk at a breakfast tomorrow morning. The talk will be to high school students and will focus on the benefits of hard work and never giving up, achieving success in life etc.
I'm not sure exactly where to go with this. I was thinking of beginning by asking how many of them have an idea in mind of how they'd like their life to go. Then maybe telling some of my story about changing majors then settling on a career that wasn't even in the field k went to school for, then perusing the cfp and having to take it multiple times and then persevering in my career now despite struggles. The point being that you can plan out your life and it usually doesn't go that way but you have to be able to adapt.
Does that sound like a good plan? I'm not sure if that is what they want but that's the angle I'm thinking of. Any other feedback?
I think that sounds good. I'd also encourage them to not be afraid of taking random classes during college that have nothing to do with their majot. I know I was so focused on finishing school in 4 years that I didn't really explore different possibilities.
It went great! I was really nervous but as it went on i calmed down. I talked about my college experience and taking the cfp exam 4 times. Everyone applauded when I told how I passed finally so that was cool. My overall message was that hard work and tenacity will be the most important lessons you can learn in life.
