So I guess when I spend $22 to overnight a check to the IRS, that means the USPS can deliver it whenever they feel like it?
GUARANTEED to arrive at noon today. When I log in to the USPS tracking system, it tells me it's in Cincy but they've just DECIDED that they will drop it over there tomorrow, I guess, if they feel like it. UGH.
When did just about every person or company that we pay for a service (as in throw money at lots of people to make life less stressful) decide they will just do it on their schedule, not according to the job that I pay them for?
I swear this last year has been the worst on-going CS nightmare, starting when we ordered that fucking couch from Ashley Furniture on Memorial Day. Maybe I should sage this place to get rid of our bad CS juju.
And after that whole dog post had me is such a good mood.
Just to add insult to injury, Ashley Furniture seems to have their commercials on auto-repeat at my house. Like they play 2 or 3 right in a row during the same commercial break. I may snap and throw something at the damn television.
No lie, I live in MN and between work and my personal stuff, probably around 6 packages enroute to me/my company from southern, western, and from within MN have first detoured through NY/NJ going through USPS since last fall.

How long does that take? I sent my mom mail to Ohio on May 4 and she still doesn't have it.
I signed up for a post office box three years ago through their website. When I took the paper into the post office to get the key they said it wasn't coming up in their system and they had no record that I purchased a box or paid for it online even though I had a website print out showing otherwise. I tried and tried and tried and produced documentation showing the charge and NO ONE in the whole USPS system could figure it out.
I had to file a claim with my credit card to get my $35 back.
Also, the large post office I use at work only puts stuff in our box when they feel like it. Some days I go in and I have one piece, sometimes I have 100.
And my old postman was a dick.
Seriously, dismantle this organization already. Off with their heads!

At least a week. One of my letters left my local post office for a 2 hour drive to Minneapolis, took a tour of NJ and was there a week later.

I just posted puppy pics in the other thread. Just go look and ignore USPS.

Mother's Day card? It took my mom's 2 weeks to get here (to my g'ma) from Boston earlier this month!
Canada Post isn't any better. A few years ago, in their infinite wisdom, they decided to close the sorting station in my city and route all our mail through Ottawa - a 4 hour(ish) drive from here. So, mail that we send within our city goes from here to Ottawa and back and can take up to 2 weeks for it to arrive at its destination. We get mail faster from other cities that we do our own, it's nuts. To add insult to injury they keep raising stamp prices and lowering services
Here - have a drink :drink:and lets go look at puppy pictures again.
And if you don't like puppies maybe this cute little cow will make you smile

Sorry to hear things aren't any better for you guys up north. We may as well send stuff via carrier pigeon or pack mule.
Pom - That's why I like email money transfers, I can send money that way and not have to worry about it getting lost in the mail, the bonus is that you get a message back from the bank when it's been accepted so there is no doubt that it was received. Thank goodness for technology!

Oh for sure, I have started only paying bills via on-line banking. I need to set up my mom that way. She's just old school, but after this we are making the change! And the IRS required us to send lots of paperwork for FIL's estate issue with that check so they told me only OVERNIGHT would guarantee it would arrive in time. It actually doesn't need to be there until 5/27. But if I pay for overnight delivery... they should, oh I don't know, deliver it then.
Gah! Don't get me started on USPS. We get mail that isn't addressed to us almost weekly so I always wonder how much of our mail ends up in someone else's mailbox. It is usually for the house 1 street over that has the same house number but the street names are totally different so you would think that would get noticed.
And we are on what is considered a prime route since everyone in the hood has mailboxes on the street so no walking for the post person. And since routes are bid by seniority, this means we have the oldest laziest post person just waiting to retire so they give no fucks about getting delivery right.
The best was when the post person delivered a package for someone that lived over 2 miles away and my address and their address had nothing in common except the city, state and zip. Not one word or digit was shared in the street address.

Ugh! I remember your furniture saga with them. What dicks. If it makes you feel even a tad bit better thought I should share that earlier this year when couch shopping I didn't even step foot in their store. We ended up with a couch from Costco

Oh lord, how frustrating.
Our mailman has been getting NAILED as of late on nextdoor.com. Talk about some haters. I mean they hate everything and everyone on there since no bitch is too big or too small but their taste for his postal flesh is rabid, LOL. I learned a long time ago not to mail anything from our neighborhood box.
HEY...Miracles do happen! I just got a text that is was delivered. After they texted me that they wouldn't be delivering it until tomorrow. TWICE. Whatevs, I am thrilled I don't have to trot myself up there and fill out any forms. I copied all the delivery info down, and saved it...the signer and the whole shabang. For when the IRS says they never got it. I have trust issues.
I just heard a story on a local FB yard sale page about a lady who bought a bed from Ashley. They delivered and set it up while her husband was there. She came home and it was the wrong color. They will not take it back, because they can't re-sell it now as new, regardless of our state law about having 3 days to back out of a contract... She *might* be able to pay a $250 restocking fee to return it.
We moved from street A to street B. The IL's moved from street B to street C. Naturally, we have the same last name.
THEY ARE COMPLETELY BEWILDERED.
Mail is being returned to sender, we're getting mail for them, they are getting mail for US (wtf???), etc. This really shouldn't be that hard.
Oh man, this would be hilarious if it didn't sound so fucking frustrating.
We got several pieces of mail for someone living on a completely different street but the same house number. I kept returning it and they just kept delivering the same pieces of mail back to us. THREE TIMES they did this. I'd return it to them saying it was delivered to the wrong address...and the same, very distinct looking pieces, would end up back in our mailbox a few days later. It was a COMPLETELY different street name. Not even similar.
The last time I trusted USPS to send something, they lost my 401k rollover check. As in, my life savings. Thanks for nothing, USPS
OMG, what a clusterfvck. That scares me.
hamster How long until that gets sorted out....yeah good luck. You are right, it shouldn't be that hard.
msmerymac AF has NO remorse for treating customers poorly. I hope she pursues the matter with BBB or the local consumer reports via a local news station. ASSHOLES.
Phun and Foodie.... again, this is so crazy that everything is so difficult. Geez.
I am now stopping our mail for 3 weeks. Think I will see any of it ever again? LOL (not kidding).

Thankfully I was able to get my old servicer to reissue the check. It such a PITA to work with USPS on this.

I am not a fan either. I have had so many pieces lost in the mail and then I have to fight to get a refund. I can't really hate the USPS though simply because my friend works for them. At this point, that is the only reason. I remember growing up we had the same mailman. He got to know us, to the point that when XH (who was FI at the time) started having his mail forwarded to our house for reasons, the mailman stopped and asked if we knew the name. My dad said "Yea, I guess I should claim him since he is about to be my son-in-law"

You will likely be OK.
My parents stop their mail regularly throughout the year when they travel and haven't had any issues that I know of, other than they still sometimes randomly deliver mail one day during the stop order. So you may want to have someone check your mailbox a couple of times while you are gone.
In my area at least, it seems that the actual delivery part is always the problem, not the mail getting to the post office. And since mom and dad have to go pick up their mail at the post office vs a big tote being delivered to their house, that issue hasn't come up.

I had that happen too. The guy who got the mail found me on FB and messaged me. I'm really glad he did because it had a check in it that I had been waiting on!
