So it seemed like there was some interest in this kind of thread. Clearly I can't argue success yet but will recap my experience here IN REAL TIME so you all can see what we're doing.
cep1976 sent me the 3 day book. Here are the principles we are following: -ask frequently if she is dry and praise -constantly say "remember to tell me when you need to go" (don't try to make them go or take her without her asking) -never say "no" or "bad" when there's an accident -reward, but don't bribe
I got DD up at 8 am. We took all of her pull-ups/diapers and put them in a plastic bag. I said she was a big girl, and they're only for nap and bedtime (we aren't going whole hog yet). Then I put her in underwear. No other clothes.
So far (2h20m in) she's peed twice without warning. I scoop her up, take her to the bathroom and set her on the toilet. Once she's done, cleaned up and in new underwear (I put a basket of them in the bathroom for ease), then I make her help me clean up.
The one I read said go whole hog (naps and nighttime). We only used diapers at night. Surprisingly he wakes up from naptime dry most of the time!
We had pretty good success with the 3 day method. He still sometimes has accidents (we only did it 3 weekends ago), but for the most part he's doing great!
My husband is insistent we go whole hog and do underwear at naps and night, ugh.
The author is SO SMUG. Eff her.
My kids were potty trained for ages before we transitioned to underwear 100% of the time. We did pull ups for bedtime for months after initial training, and when they were dry for several days in a row, we talked about trying underwear overnight.

Good luck!!!
Yeah that's what she recommends but I'm not ready for that. I figure I will wait until she wakes up dry.
Confession: I am lazy plus she hangs out in her crib a lot after she wakes up. I don't want to have to rush in there right when she wakes up
We dropped pull ups for naps and overnights about 8 months after potty training. Honestly I just didn't want to deal with changing sheets and clothes MOTN or interrupted sleep for either of us. He was well into 3 and when he started waking up dry for a few weeks I tossed them.

We're trying this in a couple weeks so I'll be following this thread with interest! We will also be holding off on nap/bedtime PTing for the time being.
I'm so not ready for this. And our house has a lot of carpet.
Can you hang outside? The book recommends always bringing them to the bathroom but if its nice enough to play outside tomorrow I will bring the little potty out.
What I like about her method is that it's training the kid to recognize when they need to go and tell you rather than expecting the parent to take them to go on a schedule which isn't sustainable IMO.

This is my current excuse for waiting! The weather has been unseasonably cold this month, so we can't start yet.
I prefer the babycenter article to the book. The book made it seem like RELIGION. If you don't follow all the rules, your child won't be SAVED and will perish in the fires of pull-ups until kindergarten.
Anyway, our first day was epicly bad. Second was pretty awful and I sort of quit halfway through. he was still trained fairly well by day 3 or 4, but we're still in pull ups for naps and overnight. He doesn't wake to pee, and I'm not washing beds that often.

Did you do naked or underwear? I was planning on doing naked.
We did naked as much as we could. I think I might have cheated and left the house for a while on day 2? It all worked out in the end, even though I'm incapable of cleaning up pee in my house for 3 consecutive days.
Good luck! I PT'd DD1 at 22mo & she still had accidents for a couple months here & there. The last time she ever peed anywhere day or night was 26mo. It was stressful though...so I've just waited it out for the others (who did at 2.5 & almost 3). One more time of this & I'm done, done, done. Cannot wait.

Underwear is giving me lots of chances to praise...when I check in with her to make sure she's dry. I think it's a preference thing though.
Naptime now. She didn't want to go before. She normally poops during naptime, so I did tell her to call for me if she needs to go, but I don't expect she will.
All told, this morning we had five pees (on the floor). By the last one, she said "Mommy, I'm peeing" rather than just uhoh so I think that might be progress?
Are there any tips for toddlers fighting underwear? I'm so over changing DS' diapers, but he flips out when we try underwear or naked time.
She says just put them on and redirect...LOFL.
DD was super excited for the character underwear. Did you let him pick his out?
LOL! Yeah, he picked out some Mickey and Jake underwear. We had two ok days of PT a few months ago, but he ended up with massive diarrhea from all the M & Ms, so we went back to diapers. When we make any attempts to try again, he flips out so we've been putting it off.
We're starting with underwear tomorrow. DS is 3y2m old. He's had every poop on the potty since Monday when we bought the m&m's for rewards. Very food motivated, my little guy. Loves sweets just like his mom So hopefully pee training goes just as well!
Also, tiny little boy underwear is just the CUTEST freakin' thing. We picked them out together (Planes and Cars, natch) and I washed them. They're so adorable with the tiny penis hole!
