I'm kinda sorry I keep coming to you guys for random inspiration, but I'm also not sorry because you're better at it than I am.
So. Shorti (2 year old little hand in sig) is getting big girl furniture. All white Hemnes line from ikea (dresser, bed, nightstand) plus a vertical 2x6 kallax unit used mostly as bookshelf on the bottom with a couple of square bins for random little girl stuff storage up higher. The paint, art and rug are staying the same (though I suppose the art might move around). She'll also be getting white 2" faux wood blinds on her windows. Bed long way under the window, 8 drawer dresser where the crib is now, kallax where the dresser is. (I think. Furniture is going in this weekend so we might shuffle around once it's assembled)
Room looks like this with current furniture, which will all be going into Sizzli's room (the cabbage in sig):
Doesn't have to be a full set or anything, but I can't even picture what I actually want that would look cute.
Grey walls, birch mural and white furniture. With this combo, any color scheme would work and any animal or floral motif would work. The artwork appears to have blues and purples. using the blues and purples from the art work, here are some ideas:
JRo I'd like to keep it relatively soft. The original inspiration for the room was the middle of the three owl prints:
But I'd not mind bringing in a bit more color now. Maybe some more yellow/gold pulling from the rug? At the very least a more saturated purple would be fine by me. I dunno...whatever seems like it would work. I don't want like PRIMARY COLORS SUPER TODDLER ROOM WOOO! though.

For my 4 year old niece, her mom picked out two that she liked and asked the niece which she would prefer.
Ooh - I like these two. The owls are so cute and a little "TODDLER!" but not too much. I give comforters like 5 years max, so I wouldn't worry about teen years.
I think the PBK butterfly stuff is a little too muted for the already muted room.

Hmmm, I sort of want to go with this woodgrained comforter, realistic pillows of a log, owl, and raccoon, and then add a lavender sheet instead of the one they show.
But I really like this fabric for a duvet cover or comforter/quilt. Know anyone who wants to sew you one? It would look great in gray with the birch trees and then some lavender sheets and cute woodland pillows.
Your tolerance for used sheets may vary, but I tend to get crib and twin sheets at thrift/consignment stores. Like you, I have a neutral-colored room and no specific decorative vision so it works really well when there are pee issues. We can go from solid sky blue to crazy loud stripes to Thomas The Tank Engine and it's kind of fun to see how the room changes. The top duvet cover is a colorful number from IKEA that works with everything although a solid neutral would also work.
She's a little kid, I say go with something FUN!! I *adore* that first Owl comforter Magdala posted from overstock. I think its PERFECT for someone currently 2 and will be fun up through nearing 8 or 9 when she'll enjoying choosing her own comforter and putting her own stamp on things.
I bought a reversible quilt for DD and I am thrilled with it. I love to change things up every now and then and it's simply done by flipping to the other side The quilt has two very different looks/colors on each side.
That's a good idea. I'm waffling right now between a thinner quilt style thing and an actual comforter. Considering that we're not even kinda potty trained right now, I probably want a quilt for ease of washing without filling up the entire damn washer with just one thing...hmmm.
Related question - one side of the bed will be against the wall. Do I need a bed rail on both sides? I'm thinking just sticking a pool noodle or a rolled up towel under the fitted sheet on that side or something so she doesn't wedge herself in there.

We have never had a bed rail. We did a long rolled blanket under the sheet on both sides for our kiddos. We have one the routinely rolls out of bed, but stays asleep too - the other two it worked great to keep them in bed while sleeping.
I'll post a crappy couple of pictures in a second. I caved and went more little kid. She loved it...so, oh well. My design aspirations take a backseat to a little girl that loves butterflies. But I love the colors of it - which definitely work well with the walls - less so with the rug, but still ok.
I like the ikea hemnes furniture too - it took forfuckingever to put it all together (we were already pretty well exhausted from moving stuff by the time we started, and had shorti trying to "help" which slowed us down more) - but it feels really sturdy and looks cute. The kallax unit has so much room! Her entire book collection only takes up 2 cubes, and not even totally full. I don't even know what else will go in there - obviously the books and who knows what else random kid stuff will keep coming, but it's nice to have more storage than I know what to do with for a short time at least.
We decided to try it out with no bedrails for a while. It's low and the rug is thick - if she doesn't fall out of bed, then, hey - she doesn't fall out of bed. If she does then we'll reassess.
Man...I really need to get around to painting the doors. That door to the right of the kallax unit is in fact that awful dingy yellowish color, it's not a trick of the lighting. I never painted any of our bedroom doors when we installed them 2 years ago...
