My neighbor just put out one of these signs on her curb while her kids (ages 4 and 7) ride their bikes. I have never seen one of them before. Is it commonplace these days?
The elementary school across the way uses those. I've never seen them in private use, and I think it's a little odd for a private person to try to control traffic speed. It kind of slays me that she doesn't want traffic to slow when other kids are biking, just when her kids are biking.
I actually think they are a good idea. I don't have one, but it does call attention to the children and creates awareness for drivers. I'm never opposed to anything that may create a safer environment for children.
My neighbors put out orange cones, which I wouldn't take issue with except we're in townhomes and they're essentially blocking people's driveways. I can't wait to move.
I've never seen that sign guy thing before though.
You can buy them, or similar ones, at TRU and Amazon and all sorts of kid-related places. I've seen them around here every now and then. I don't see them as directing traffic so much as informing and warning them. It's a small-kid-versus-large-car-and-blind-spots issue that I have on problem with.
ETA: Not in the MIDDLE of the street. Along the side at the corner so you can see them as you approach or turn.
I've seen them. My parents live in a cul de sac and these parents block the entrance with these. They don't even live there, they live on the corner! When I was a kid we moved out of the way ::shakes fist::

Our neighbors have had one for like 6+ years. At Halloween they put a mask on it. I just want to cover it with dirt & put up a nice tombstone. Here lies Scary Wooden Timmy. He had it coming.

We are getting one. We are the first house on the street, around the corner. Fuckers zip around the corner in the middle of the street- nearly hitting cars as they come down the other way.
Anyways, I don't see any harm in putting one up at the start of the curve to let drivers know there are children outside.

One of the home see my n the main road through my neighborhood has one out most days. I don't mind it. It's just one. And the house is in a good spot for it. People fly down that hill so a reminder to slow the fuck down b/c 50 on a neighborhood is too fast is fun be with me.
There are several on my street, accompanied by signs that warn of playing children, and to drive safely. People speed down my street all the time, so I'm not sure the signage is much of a deterrent.

I've seen them. We live on a dead end street so people speed down it to turn around. I almost got hit today getting my mail and putting the trash cans away. 2 of my neighbors were outside and we all yelled. I now want one of these!
I have seen them around here. Mainly on semi-main roads/busy side streets where people have a tendency to speed.
I don't mind them. If it makes people feel like their kids will be safer, put them out. However, the people who really speed and drive like bats out of hell will probably not see and/or care about these signs.
I see them around, usually in the front yards of in-home daycare providers.
I wouldn't mind getting one (we live on a very busy road) if I knew it would somehow slow the drag racers down that go up and down our section of the street.
