I saw several articles/sources recommending something around 45 carb/30 protein/25 fat for someone trying to gain muscle, which is me. I started trying to eat according to that plan (tracking on MFP) and generally feel good there, so that's what I keep in mind. Not the most scientific approach, but I'm happy with it.
I did 3 weeks of Whole30 and during a CF comp totally tanked and felt like I just didn't have enough easy energy accessible. Obviously paleo can be tweaked to work for lots of athletes, but since I wasn't feeling any benefits anyway I decided to go back to eating as I had before, which includes oatmeal, bread, pasta, etc.
