Did the area feel any different? lol. We are moving into a new house next week and I've been thinking about using one. The people we are buying from suck and I want to get rid of their negative energy. I googled a bit today and didn't find much about the significance of smudge sticks other than them being a Native American custom.
I had a roommate in college who smudged. Although I haven't done it myself, I did learn a few things from her: it's disrespectful to use an abalone shell for the ashes, use a dish instead (still somewhat unclear on why, I guess fire and water shouldn't mix or something). Also make sure you wave the smoke into all the corners. No need to chant or anything, just keep positive thoughts in your head.
And there's probably more, but I've forgotten her "rules" over the years.

I totally thought this was about makeup when I opened it. But, yes. I smudged my house with sage before we moved in. We bought bank owned and the house felt good but I didn't want any bad mojo lingering. I just walked through the house and announced our intention to make it a happy home while smoking all the corners of the rooms and then aired it all out. I spent 15 minutes or so on it, opened the windows, and called it a day.
I have smudged. It can't hurt! You're supposed to get all corners, in closets etc. then open windows to let it out. Think positive and there are some words of positivity that you can look up to say.
