Moving. I've moved several times, yet I am always surprised by the cost. My upcoming move has been the most expensive yet due to having to pay brokers' fees in addition to the typical first and last months rent.
We've finally decided on the solution for our car situation. H is taking mine and I get a new one. This was determined when I was browsing cars for him and stumbled on a Prius for around $20k. I thought they were up in the $30ks.

Used cars. Just casually looking, and I was surprised at some of the prices.
I second moving. I'm happy DHs company is paying for it, but yeah it's expensive. They had to up the amount from $7500 to $10K, because for a lot of employees $7500 wasn't cutting it.

Where are you guys moving to?

Believe it of not, we're still working on the relocation from when I left DC. We got an extension, since we weren't able to sell the house.
Yard equipment. Our mower broke so we had to order a new one. It actually wasn't as bad as I feared but still high. We need a new string trimmer too but I'm holding off.
Insurance was supposed to cover the rest and they denied it for reasons I don't understand. Appeal didn't help.
That sucks. Do they have a social media page? If so you should totally post about this there. They can usually get stuff to the right people to get decisions made or at the very least make it so you understand what's going on.

I didn't read the home disclosure carefully enough to notice that my (soon-to-be) new home has polybutylene plumbing. You know, the stuff that caused multiple lawsuits in the 90's? I did think it odd that there had been a (fixed) burst pipe and supply line replacement in the past given the age of the house, and thought it just overly cautious that the homeowners turned off the water before going out of town for the weekend, but it wasn't until after the inspection that it hit me. Thankfully it appears to be designed without joints (there's a separate line to every appliance or fixture), but the piping itself can fail too. So I guess it's a combination of "surprised that I'm looking at replumbing the house" and "It's really not as expensive as I would have thought it would be to do that".
Had an arborist come to give us a quote to remove one tree and trim another. Turned into removing 3 trees and trimming 5 to the tune of $3500! It has to be done but damn there goes my house decorating budget.

Suuuucky. Sorry. I don't know any of the backstory but I had a procedure done that insurance denied and then they denied again on appeal. I thought I was SOL but asked on here and got encouragement to keep trying. I soaked again and the doctor and test provider helped me and ultimately the insurance company paid. It didn't come to this for me, but someone here recommended talking to my company (it was my employer's health insurance) to see if they had an advocate that could help. Fingers crossed that you can get it reversed. What an awful surprise.
Replacement windows for our house. We signed a contract for $48k. I was really hoping it would be $35-40k.
On the flip side, we are having cement steps poured to get from the main level of our garage to the basement. We budgeted for $25k and those came in at $21k.
The extra cost for the windows means we have to delay finishing our basement until new year.

Physical therapy for my shoulder impingement. When I set up my first appointment I was told my insurance covers 75%. I thought 25% wasn't too bad, but stupidly didn't ask what each session would cost. I've been paying $90 for each 30 minute session! That's MY portion for a "regular" visit. And there have been some special visits that cost even more, but I can't tell how they are different from the others.
I'm angry at myself for not asking the price and the PT place for charging so much.
A roundtrip flight to see my sister was only $260, that's pretty cheap given that it's from one regional airport to another, with a layover in Atlanta.
Probably because no one wants to hang in Georgia in July. The prices are way up now though. So yay for booking early.
Also, WTF is up with dealer maintenance costs? The Infiniti dealer wanted $524 to change brake pads and I can buy the brake pads themselves for under $120. So we decided to upgrade to some premium pads AND rotors, and even buying all the supplies and a few tools, it all came out to around $500. Better quality and no doubt a cleaner job that any dealership will ever do.
