So last Tuesday I traveled for work to Dallas to a training. I left my house at 4:10 am with a 630 flight to Dallas. I had training from 9-5:30 and then flew home. I didnt get home until 10:45pm. Does anybody know the laws on how I should be payed? Do I only get paid for the "training time" or should I get paid for the whole time?

It depends on your company. I would try to charge the time from 4:10 until 10:45pm, so about 16.5 hours, but subtract what your normal commute takes (so if your normal commute is 30min, then take 1 hour off for the day).
My company has a travel time rule where you can't bill more than 5-6 hours of travel time b/c you should be billable to a client while on longer flights and doing work that isn't just "travel", but we also have a limit on time for a day. So if you can't bill more than 17 hours in a day.

I work in the medical field and my normal commute is only 10 minutes. Yes I am hourly. I turned in my time card for the whole time and my boss "paid" me for 8 hours but that didn't seem right to me. I guess I'm more upset that my boss scheduled me off on Monday so now I'm going to have to use PTO to have a full check this pay period.
You're right that it doesn't seem right. I'd check with your HR about the policies. I know that for me, I'd subtract my regular work hours and regular commute from the total 'work/travel' day and then I'd get paid for those additional hours.
According to this website, you should be your normal hourly wage for your normal work day, plus 1/2 your hourly wage for any travel time outside your normal work day (defined as the time you arrive at the airport until you arrive at the training location and then from the time you leave the training location until you arrive back at your home airport. www.shrm.org/templatestools/samples/policies/pages/cms_007474.aspx
