How big is your yard? What's your budget? Is the yard hilly?
If it's a big yard, you will probably want a ride on gas mower. If it's small, then go for a self_propelled push mower. If it's a small yard, and you can do it on one battery charge, then go with electric. If not, gas.
The only add on we like is the wheelbarrow for the riding mower. Grass-catches etc. All just add cost, IMO.
We have both a gas and an Electric. I like the electric. I like that I don't have to store gas in my garage, don't have to fill it up, change its oil. BUT with an electric, I do have to watch out for the power cord and I have to plug it in.
Our electric is a mulching one because I don't have the patience nor time to bag my grass. No thank you. And it is push one.
We have a plug in electric push mower. We have a small yard though. I have never mowed lol, but my husband likes it more than the previous gas mower we had.
We have a gas ride on, .75 acre yard with a big hill. It would take for.eve.er to mow without the ride on, and even with it still take h almost an hour.
My moms walk behind gas mower is broken and she's been having to use her ancient push mower (no motor - just blades) and she's been having a tough time especially when the grass gets longish. Granted I'm sure her blades haven't been sharpened recently...so that may skew my opinion. I have used it one time and it was pretty hard. Like mala said....depends in the size of the yard. Up until a few months ago we had a walk behind gas on that worked pretty well. MH just got a John Deere riding mower with a bagger as our new house has a significantly larger yard than our previous house.

We have a small yard so last year we bought a push mower. It worked really well, but all that grass sitting on top of the lawn to mulch was a PITA. H has to rake it all up so Jack could play on the grass.
This year we bought an electric mower. I didn't want the hassle of buying gas for it. It works great! I'd actually recommend against the ones with battery as all the reviews I read said that they lost their power to charge rather quickly. We were looking at the Ryobi ones that Home Depot sells because H has a trimmer made by them and all their products use the same batteries. Many of the reviews that I read said that a few months to a year later the battery power was such that it needed to be charged in the middle of the job to finish the lawn. So corded it was. H has no problem with it, he starts closest to the plug and works his way out.

Oh, also, we made sure to get one that collects the grass for us because it is a serious hassle to rake and even worse to let it mulch in if kids are going to play on it and you don't want them tracking grass in the house.
my mom has a small yard and looooooooves their electric, I'd go for it. We seriously considered it, but we have half an acre and it would take 2 charges for all the ones we looked at. Gas is a PITA to keep fueled and to start, so H does the mowing.
We loved our reel mower. We gave it away because we didn't know where we would land but we are strongly considering buying another one for our .25 acre lot.
We have a cordless Black and Decker electric and I have no complaints. If the grass is really long you might have to slow down a bit to get through it, but I have no problem cutting our lot in one charge (our lot is 50' x 100').
Our lawn mower came with a bag, but we never use it. Grass-cycling for lyfe. We usually mow on the highest or second highest setting, and mowing once a week I've never had issues with tracking grass into the house. Plus, it helps to keep the weeds a bit more at bay.

We have a light corded electric mower. Dh can handle it better because he is taller (which makes it easier to make sure the cord is out of the way), but I can do it, too.
Our yard isn't very big. After we closed and when we were totally broke afterward, I gasped at H even thinking about getting anything other than an old school blade push mower.
My poor husband. This was so cruel. If your yard is bigger than a putting green at miniature golf get the electric mower. Ours plugs in.

We have a push mower, but when our lawn gets out of control we borrow the neighbor's electric mower. I grew up with gas mowers and I really like the electric mower. It has a cord, though, so I have no experience with cordless. I do not like self propelling mowers, I like feeling more in control of the big machine, with rapidly turning metal blades.
