H has been in agony, barely able to walk, for almost three weeks now. He went to the chiropractor (this is a man who has been to the doctor ONE other time (besides work physicals) in the 10+ years that we've been together). He told him he 'popped the sacroiliac joint' and straightened him out and he practically skipped home - until the next day.

After a car accident I had some soft tissue damage in the muscles surrounding my sacroiliac. Every now and then it still tenses up and gives me issues. He should probably see a doctor to get some imaging done, there may be something more complicated going on and imho back pain is nothing to mess around with.
Ugh, no advice but I had severe sacroiliac pain brought on by pg and it was a misery. My dr advised me to see a chiro but I never did bc we were flat broke, but it sounds like he does need a real dr.

Ugh, only the terrible awful pain of it that comes through pregnancy.
Adjusting the way I move and sit, as well as intentional stretching/yoga poses helps. I'm very mindful to not sit on soft surfaces for long periods of time (over 15-20 minutes) and when I do, no slouching).
When I first get up and walk, I tuck my pelvis in and engage my arms to tighten the area.
When I'm lying down, I always press my knees together and pull into my chest to turn over or move.
And I do cat pose throughout the day on all fours when it's especially painful. But there are other helpful poses.
He should see a doctor who can evaluate whether he needs imaging done to the area or not. Then likely physiotherapy. Physio is a much better bang for your buck than chiro.
He should see a doctor. And get a referral for physical therapy.
This is how I fix my SI joint pain. Works every time. (NOT medical advice although I have had physical therapists do it to me and I have performed it on others in a clinical setting). m.youtube.com/watch?v=RkltzrvatlU

I have chronic sacroiliac joint pain. It was OK for a long time but when I started mma I injured it again and it's been rough. The best way I've managed is ibuprofen, stretching, massages, heating pad, and when it gets really bad a tramadol. It took about 2-3 weeks of going easy, and sleeping with a pillow between my knees lol, to heal up after this last occurrence. It still hurts if I overdo it in class but day to day now I'm usually fine.
I don't know anything about that specific thing but I regularly see a chiropractor. When I am really out of alignment it can take multiple (the last time I was bad I went twice a week for a month till it finally stuck) visits to get me back into shape.

He should definitely see a real doctor! He needs to find out exactly what is wrong, before having anyone work on his back. A chiro could do more damage if they manipulate something the wrong way, if it is already out of whack. I hope he gets some relief!
SI pain is awful. Mine flares up every now and again, and it takes several visits to get it fixed. I see a sports Dr that does various soft tissue modalities. Chiro alone isn't enough for me and an MD just offers me pain meds.
With something like that, one visit isn't likely going to be enough to solve it no matter what kind of Dr it is.
I don't even know where to post an intro here! I was on TK/TN/TB since 2003, mostly local boards. I was m_and_m.

I am in PT for this now - it was brought on by pregnancy and I waited 15 months after she was born to finally see my dr for an exam. Xray showed my right half of my pelvis was out of place leading to the SI joint pain. I have exercises and kinesio tape and have been moved from weekly to biweekly, which is too long between appts. The video above is similar to the adjustments she does, in addition to ultrasound, stretching and massage.
It's been a painful road and I'm in a down place about it right now as I've had a bit of a setback the past couple of weeks. It's definitely worth seeing the dr, and overall PT has made a big difference.
My antecdote: I actually had a slight separation while training for a marathon. Because it was a separation, two trips to a chiro who knew what she was doing pretty much cured me. The first time I went, the fix lasted for a few days and then came back when I fully resumed running. The second adjustment was permanent and I finished training without any further issues. (Also, those two appointments were the only times in my life I have ever visited a chiro so I am NOT a huge advocate in other situations)
If it's not a separation though, I don't think a chiro would be helpful. If he is in that much pain, he should see a real doc and get some further testing to see what might be going on. SI pain is usually pretty distinctive, but not always. It sure does hurt though - I'm sorry for your H (and you!).
I just got over this issue. I think I did it with too many squats in a workout and it finally went. It felt like I couldn't stand up straight for about 50 steps until things got moving again. After about 2 weeks of pain meds, it wasn't getting any better so I went to a Chiro. The first visit was amazing! Same as your husband - I could have skipped out to the car I felt so good. It slowly started creeping back over the next few days. My next chiro appt was 4 days later. It had slipped a little, but definitely not as bad as the first time she saw me. If you go the chiro route, you have to go 2 - 4 weeks of adjustments. The joints will slip between, but eventually they get into the place and the ligaments heal and all stays fine. I went 4 times and actually just cancelled my appointment for tomorrow because I have gone all weekend and not even thought about it. I can get out of the chair fine here at work and that was the worst part of it.
