I'm in the process of learning. I can do a lot, but nothing super fancy. My goal is to be able to make my own clothes. I've done kids clothes (simple things like circle skirts and pajama pants), pillowcases, curtains, tablet cases, and halloween costumes.
I like making blankets... b/c as my mom says they are squares and I can't screw them up too badly but as consolation... my niece loves my blanket I made for her
I had 2 years of private sewing lessons in grade school I made my prom dress, with my mom's help due to time constraints and it being the first time I'd worked with velvet and something with a lining. Nowadays, I only do costumes or home decor stuff. I *HATE* repairs so my sewing table is just heaped with clothes. My machine is still that original machine so only does a straight and zig-zag stitch. I kind of want one that will at least do the blind hem stitch but don't sew enough to feel the expenditure is justified. I used to sew enough that I could wing a lot of things without patterns but now whenever I try, it's hilarious because I'm trying something ridiculously complicated (with sleeves but no appropriate French curve dohicky to pattern it). Last major thing I tried sewing was a 1920s dress but it was a vintage pattern and SUPER hard to figure out.
I have made a handful of things like curtains, baby blankets, burp cloths, heating pads, and various other things. I have one quilt that I started with the intent on sending along with H through his deployment but I never got it finished. I still haven't finished it just because I don't have some of the proper things to do so. Well that and I really am not so great at cutting straight lines lol. I enjoy it though but just don't have much time to do anything. I also have an awesome "ancient" sewing machine that MIL gave me I think my first or second christmas with H.

I go to the pros for things like a jean hem, but buttons and stuff, yeah, I'll do that. My mom and my dad's mom tried to teach me, and I did sew a teddy bear for someone's baby shower once. I would definitely do more if I had a sewing machine at home.
