How about "I'm following up regarding meeting Department Head."
One thing v mentioned in a post a while ago, and I have tried to use this myself, is to refrain from the phrase "I wanted" or "I just wanted".
I must have missed that post. What is the reasoning? I use it all the time at work. I feel like it makes my requests to other departments seem more polite.
It's not necessary and sounds like you aren't confident in your request. It sounds kind of wishy-washy.
Compare the phrases:
I just wanted to check in with you about the status of that project.
I'm checking in with you about the status of that project.
Which sounds more confident and competent?
I realized after that post that I use the "i wanted" or "i just wanted" phrase all the time in my emails. Now I write an email, then go back and try to remove wherever I wrote "I just wanted". It's like how women apologize all the time for nothing. I am trying to avoid that as well!
Oh wow that was way simpler than what I drafted! Thank you!
Anytime!
This job search stuff is giving me so much anxiety. Now I'm second guessing who to send the email to. The hiring manager wanted me to meet with the department head, but due to our scheduling conflicts, I met with his boss instead. His boss is the one that mentioned having me come back after my vacation to meet the department head. The hiring manager was not at the second interview. Should I still send it to the hiring manager or should I send it to his boss since she is the one that mentioned it?

I think this was in one of my posts and I'm trying so hard to stop doing it but it keeps slipping in there

I would still send to hiring manager. You change wording to "as discussed with Boss" or something like that.
Thank you so much for meeting with me on [date] to discuss the [title] position at [company]. I really enjoyed meeting you and [names] and remain extremely interested in the role.
Could you please let me know your timeline for the next steps?
Kind Regards,
Steph
I tend to keep these things pretty general because there have been so many times where an interview has gone well, we've talked at the interview about me coming back in (sometimes to meet with specific people) ... and then the next round hasn't come to fruition because the job got pulled or it went to an internal candidate or someone else came along who wowed them more. So I like to phrase these things more as "I'm still out here and interested -- let me what's going on, please?" rather than "Let's set up that meeting you promised me."
And I've been told to shy away from "I'm available any time" responses because they are entirely unhelpful and sound desperate.

I just asked a manager that used to work with both of them. She seconded your advice.
I just sent the email. I have never been so upfront before! I am so nervous!

Don't second guess yourself, steph96. Best case, it works. Worst case you are no worse than now.
TBH, while I get all the comments and try to watch myself on the "just wanted to" stuff. I wouldn't sweat it. Was everything spelled correctly and grammatically correct? Great. I doubt they will rule you out for being eager.

I just got a call from them. They actually planned on calling me today anyways. They thanked me for applying and said that I was their runner up, but they decided to go with someone that has a lot more experience. I'm sad, but I see why they decided to do that. Their other staff members don't have much experience, so they really do need someone with more experience.
