Not a mom, but I am a Subaru Forester girl for life. Great handling, AWD, roomy, and safe as houses. If we have a kid (in addition to our 55lb dog) I will still be Forester loyal.

I have 2 kids and 2 dogs. I am finding almost weekly that my rogue isn't big enough. We can't get all of us and the dogs in it. If we want to go to the park and take kids and dogs or kids and bikes we need to take 2 cars. I can't drive my friend and her kid with us because of car seats. I am leaning towards a minivan. I think I have do on board. Either an odyssey or a quest. Fwiw, I have a rogue now and I adore it. Aside from needing more room.
I have a 2012 Odyssey. Tons of room for kids, dogs and junk. Good on gas. It's not my dream car but it will do for now. I had a CRV before the Odyssey but with a rear facing car seat it left no leg room in the front seats (this was probably more to do with ex-h's height).
LOL, I can guarantee Mr. Mustache that I need AWD to get up my insanely steep driveway when there is even an inch or two on the ground.
Lucky us, we get to have a test case every storm when my DH insists that this is the time the lightweight hybrid hatchback *will* make it up. Or friends come down a hill and can't get back up in a wide assortment of vehicles and tires. :-p
This very article says it's useful for steep driveways in the snow. So, I suppose ar minimum people who have steep driveways who live where it snows would find a need for all wheel drive.

Chevy Traverse. Three rows, great storage, good gas mileage. I love my car so much it isn't funny. Road trips with 3 adults and 2 kids plus all our crap are a breeze.

I only have 1 kid but I love my Ford Escape. The Edge is a bit bigger though. I have the 2015 but my mom has a 2012 which I drove yesterday and it's just as nice.

I love my GMC Terrain. It's a small SUV, but feels big inside. The second row can move forward and back to accommodate room for a rear-facing carseat, and the trunk feels huge! My one complaint is the lack of rear AC vents (we're in TX).
