I have my first name, it's very uncommon in the US. I got it because I am "car blind" (if this isn't a real thing then it should be). I use my license plate to help me find it in a sea of look alike cars.

I considered it when I turned 16 and thought I needed all the car things. I forgot about it until now, though, so I guess it wasn't that important to me.

Generally speaking I think they're not great. But I did see "T DANZA" recently, which was amazing. My grandma's lawyer, who I met the first time when we were dealing with her estate has the license plate "SHYSTER." Seriously posthumously questioning your judgement, grandma.
Ugh. My dad did for the car I bought from him. We transferred the tags (can you do this anymore?) and I had to drive around with his dumb computer nerd secret code plates.
His current plate is something about Poppi, which is what L calls him. STILL HORRENDOUS.
My father does it because he's extremely dorky and sorta vain.
Not exactly. I have a special plate though--with my medical license "title" on it. Much like M.D. Plates. It can help with parking in some places (not near my hospital, unfortunately) and emergencies. I got it when I graduated because I was so proud and felt "important" or something. Now, 10 years later, I'm kind of whatever about it.

I had no idea there are special MD plates!
Really? They make you submit your medical license and then give you a random number with MD up the side. (In NY anyway. Not sure about other states)
I remember a stupid news story that some person had a vanity plate that said something like "i lov adcks" in reference to the Adirondack Mtns. A kid read it as I love dicks and they made a huge to do about it and I think they made the person get rid of it.

I was going to do this when i first got my car* and my mom was like "what if someone sees you getting into your car, and shouts your name like he knows you, and then murders you??" so I didn't.
*kind of. it wasn't going to just says "leggs," it was going to say "LEGGS LOL." I thought it was funny at the time.**
