Ugh. She and I were so close at 21. She came cross country to my wedding. I hate that she has this rigid, deeply religious side that defends anything labeled Christian.

Okay, I am SUPER DUPER liberal. I don't know that I would unfriend for a photo with a politician.
I probably would hide it because it would annoy me, but unless she's personally spouting bigoted stuff, I would let it slide.
It also depends on how close you are. I have some good friends whose political views differ greatly from mine. Fortunately none of them are the type to post about politics on their walls, so certain topics just go unaddressed between us.
It would be a lot easier to unfriend if it's someone you never talk to versus someone you see regularly and generally like.

Normally this would be my stance, but I just can't believe that posting a picture of him NOW with him recently having publicly defended Josh Duggar isn't making some kind of statement.
That's a valid point.
I've defriended a lot of people for ignorance, so something like this might well push me over the edge, but usually it takes something more overt for me to go behind just hiding them. However, given the timing of this, it might well be enough, especially if it's someone I don't have an ongoing relationship with.

Would it matter if she didn't post it? I just realized she and a woman I don't know are in it and the post is the woman's. They are flanking him and beaming at some dreadful party thing. No commentary except they are all three tagged together. I don't even know if the photo is recent or if her friend posted it now on purpose.
If she used to be a good friend, I probably wouldn't want to delete her. (I'd also secretly hope that liberal things I posted on my own FB page might make it through her feed!) I'm kind of wimpy IRL about confrontation, so I might just be like, "Really, Jess?! This week? He said some really offensive and controversial things, like, two days ago. Maybe keep this picture out of the spotlight for a while!"

That wouldn't change things for me. Even if the picture is old, Huckabee has always had controversial views that would make me question her choice to be photographed smiling with him.
That being said, if this is a friend who you remotely care about, I'd hide her on fb and not unfriend.
A picture of her standing with him wouldn't bother me. If she kept posting her political views that I didn't agree with then I would look back to how important our online friendship was. Then I would decide to either hide her from my feed or unfriend her.
The cruise I took on my honeymoon also happened to be home to a Mike Huckabee conference.
I would have been tempted to jump overboard. Ick.
It was mostly fine. They had events during the at sea days, but I obviously didn't have to go to them. And we were on our honeymoon, so we asked for a two-seater table at most meals anyways so we didn't really talk to anyone.
It was an Alaskan cruise so FWIW, we probably would've been on a ship with a lot of conservative oldz anyways
