I have a RCS scheduled for 6/26 and this baby girl remains yet unnamed. DH and I can't agree on anything.
Middle name will be R.ita after my aunt who passed away from lung cancer. It's an important name to me though I don't love it as a first name and only plan to use it as a middle.
I dont like any first names that end in A since the middle also does and I don't want anything that is TOO popular (like top 15) - all of DH's choices end in A or are too popular - Rebecca, Sonia, Elizabeth, Olivia. He refuses to come up with other ideas outside these names and it is driving me crazy!!
My first choice was Mere.dith but he vetoed that because his sister (who lives in IN) has a friend with that name (who lives in MI) - he doesn't dislike this girl, he just knows someone with that name so he is vetoing it. This is what I'm dealing with!
My next choice is Juli.et and his latest argument is that she would be made fun of because of Romeo and Juliet. Um.....ok.
I don't love Rita as a middle name. It just doesn't seem to flow well. I kind of hate myself for suggesting this, but my parents used a family name for my first name and call me by my middle name because it flows better. Would you consider doing that? It's a little annoying through the childhood years, but not a big deal for me.
Was your aunt's full name Rita or was it short for something else? Rita is usually a nn of one of the forms of Margaret (Marguerite, Margarita). I think Marguerite is a beautiful middle name and would fit better with the first names you seem to be drawn to. You'd still be naming her after your aunt, it's still the same name even if it's a variation. I'm named in honor of my paternal grandmother, her middle name was Helen, mine is Helene because it fit better with my first name.
Just something to consider.
Also, while Margot is a lovely name, it shouldn't be paired with Rita - for a reason other than the obvious. Margot is a form of Margaret, so it'd be like naming your daughter Jennifer Jenny. lol
I wouldn't worry too much about name flow in your case. If you're settling on a first name because it sounds good with Rita, you won't be happy. She will use her middle name a handful of times in her life. Pick a first name you love. And you know you love Margot.
You could also go the two middle names route; e.g., Rebecca Anne Rita.
Did your aunt have a middle name? I wanted to honor my late mother somehow with DD2's name, except that I have never really liked my mother's first name as a word. So we tweaked my mother's middle name a little, and used that for DD2's middle.
Rita is hard. I would honestly just pick a name you can agree on and not worry about the flow. I know plenty of people with not so flowy middle names. It's not a big deal really.
I don't have any suggestions beyond what's here but want to commiserate with you. We had a hell of a time picking names because If H had any association with the name it was out, as ridiculous as it might have been.

We did something similar with J's middle name. We used my paternal grandfather's middle name rather than his first name which was Norris And that just wasn't happening Lol.
@justdairy you reminded me I love Suzanne / Susanna! Must discuss tonight.
Susanna was on my short list forever and forever! I love that name. If we ever do have more kids I'm bringing it back up. H wasn't opposed entirely. Just not his first love.
Abigail Rita Jocelyn Rita Elizabeth Rita Gabrielle Rita
I like longer flowy names with Rita, anything short ending in "y" sound like an odd fusion drink from a Chili's or Applebees that is too sweet and costs 10.99( Like " Amy Rita" )

Clearly Abigail is the superior choice here ;-)
Eleanor Irene (I know, everyone hates it. But I LOVE this name. And I think it sounds good with Rita!) Caroline Nadine Grace
Work harder on Meredith -- it's a beautiful name and sounds good with Rita! (I understand the DH problem, though. My DH never suggested names, he only vetoed my suggestions!!!)
