We're required to wear closed toed shoes at work so I can't wear any of the sandals I have. Where do these fall on the ugly shoe spectrum? Other options?
UPDATED: These were confirmed ugly -- what are comfortable (and not too expensive) ballet flats? I walk about 2-3 miles at work between meetings most every day.
Why are you required to wear close toe? If it's for safety, those won't work at all.
Just in our dress code. Maybe it was the easiest way for them to say no flip flops? I don't really know. I'm in front office. When we go to the manufacturing floor, we have to wear safety shoes which I keep in my desk drawer.
I wear these almost 100% of the time at work (in black). I also have to walk across campus on a regular basis and have always been comfortable in these shoes:
Most of the ballet flats are cute, but not suitable for being on your feet for extended periods of time. If you like the sandals you posted initially - get them. Who cares what other people think of them. Go with comfort over style when it comes to being on your feet.
Clarks makes a nice pair of ballet flats that look exactly like every other ballet flat but has a ton of cushioning/support on the bottom. I wore them around the Las Vegas convention center for two days straight and was very comfortable.
The penis flats from payless. What about toms? I have some that are crochet, so they're "nicer" looking, but still slightly casual, so it depends on your work environment.

I couldn't wear opened toe shoes in the lab either. I'm not sure exactly how much safer my toes were covered vs uncovered but them's the rules and we got dinged if they caught us.
It's not easy finding closed toe sandals.....not a lot of choices.
