Okay, what do you do with really nice boys' pants with holes in the knee?? Do you just throw them out? It seems so wasteful. DS has really nice Gap and Levi pairs he has outgrown that are totally fine except for holes in the knee. If we were having another child, I would totally keep them and patch them. But, I'm not patching them just for kicks. I can't really donate them w/ holes, right?

If he has outgrown them, I'd just pitch them. if you really want to be generous, list them for free on a fb yard sale page. I'm sure someone will patch them and use them.

I would keep them for the fabric, but for normal people who don't hoard all the fabric things, I would say pitch. Or, if you have an organization that collects "scrap" type things for recycling of resale, I would donate there.
I'll keep them and if I manage to have a rummage sale in a year or two I'll put them in there for free. Great idea! He's pretty much outgrown them length-wise. Waist fits but by fall they will all be capri-length on him.

This kills me. When I lived in VA, there was a place that got paid for fabric by the pound, so they took all clothes with holes/stains, etc., and I loved being able to find a place for all that stuff. I can't find a place like that around here. So for ds, if they fit, I keep a few pairs for play clothes, offer the rest up for free on the yard sale fb site, and if no one wants them, toss them.
I keep clothes with relatively small holes for play clothes. My kids will throw them on for trampoline time, because that thing is filthy. They're great for bike riding and whatnot. If the hole is too big for that, then I post for free. There is a lady in our neighborhood that mends clothes and donates them.
As my co worker says people (no matter income) don't want your damaged crappy things, don't pass on your problems. Goodwill will just toss them anyway. I would cut into shorts and wear to they were goners and then use them as a rag.

Yes!! I have taught this lesson to my kids why can't adults get it?
