No, I might take him to urgent care just to be safe, but my kids always had these exact symptons when teething. I think the highest temp was 101 though, so I wonder if the molars are possibly irritating the ears?

Nope I would just keep an eye on him. If he starts to act lethargic or it doesn't go down with Advil, put him in a bath with luke warm water. Double up with Tylenol. I would only take him in if it spikes 104 or higher. You have to think about the germs he'd get at the ER and if what he has is more serious than the potential of getting exposed to those. He's pretty close to DS in age and DS is working on his 3rd molar in as many weeks, so I would be willing to bet it's a virus or molars for your little guy.

After three days of fever, I usually take them to see their regular doctor, unless it's a weekend, then I'll take them to the pediatric urgent care near us.

I avoid the ER like the plague.

No. I just got off of the phone with the advice nurse because my 11 year old has a fever of 103.6 and it worried me a little. But the advice nurse reminded me not to worry unless prolonged or there is labored breathing.

I also think how they're acting says a lot about whether you should go in or not (more so than the actual number).

As an anecdote, when DS had HFM he had a fever of around 101 and acted like he felt like absolute crap. Slept most of the day, was fussy, etc. When his eardrum ruptured a couple months ago (before tubes) his fever spiked to 103, but he was bopping around the doctor's office like his usual self. They said he was the happiest kid with a 103 fever they've ever seen. He was being seen because of the ear drum, but after some Advil his fever went down and never went back up.

I would take him in to be seen but just because otherwise it's murphy's law that the fever will spike scarily high over night and we'd end up going middle of the night.
I'd want to get it out of the way before 3 am.
But that's just our luck. the few times DD has been sick it never fails to happen in the middle of the night and it sucks.

FWIW, my DS used to get really high fevers (over 106) and our pedi told us that fevers aren't the scary things people think they are. My son would have febrile seizures and she said that even they are the body's way of protecting itself and not so scary (HA!) unless they are seizing for a really long time. She said how they are acting is more of an indication of how sick they are. Hope you all are good soon!!

A few weeks ago I took DS to the pedi on his second day of high fever (and miserable behavior). It turned out he (and DD1, who had a sore throat and a slight fever) had strep.

I wouldn't go to the ER, and I wouldn't send him to daycare tomorrow since he should be fever-free for 24 hours. It is a good sign that he's otherwise behaving normally, though.

I hope he's feeling better soon!

No. Her doctor says behavior is more important and kids can spike high fevers. So I'd only go to the ER for lethargy or bad symptoms with the fever. She recommends being seen after 4 days of a fever.

The only time I have taken our kids to the ER was when DS1 fell and hit his head and started throwing up about an hour later (an ill-timed stomach bug! Ha!) and when DS2 had a febrile seizure. In your case I would just alternate Motrin and Tylenol and keep an eye in it, and call your doctor if it doesn't go down after meds or persists for more than a few days.

ETA: Whoops, I didn't realize your doc recommended ER. I think in that case I would go with urgent care, but since his fever is coming down now I would just keep an eye on it.

No. 102 is not that high for a 1 year old. At all.

I wouldn't. We did Urgent Care one time because she was super lethargic, not drinking and was both vomiting and having diarrhea. So we took her in. Even then, they gave her a dissolving anti-nausea and had us force pedialyte on her. They made sure she consumed a certain amount of fluids before releasing her.

I wouldn't. My son had a 104 fever at 12 months and that freaked me out so bad that I brought him to urgent care. I was told that fevers are not as scary as they use to be. It doesn't matter how high the number as long as they get to it gradually and not quickly. She said she would worry about 105-106 though. Also, it depends on how they're acting. If he's happy, playing, drinking - he's probably ok. If he is lethargic, I would take him to urgent care or to his pedi in the morning. Rotate Tylenol and Motrin and give him a Luke warm bath. The fact that the Tylenol/Motrin is bringing his fever down is a good sign.

Nope. Especially if that is before any medicine. My pedi only worries if it is for a few days or I can't keep it under 103 with medicine.

My 10 month old is on day 2 of a fever, the highest temp being 102. I don't want to say my dr didn't care, but they acted like it was not a big deal as long as Tylenol was helping and she was eating/drinking, wetting diapers and having "periods of play."

So no, I won't be bringing her to the ER as long as things stay the same and hopefully improve. She doesn't have any teeth yet, so maybe this is it?!
