Ever since I had my tubes tied, my periods have been heavy but this cycle is taking it to a whole new level. I started this morning. In the last hour only, I bled through a super tampon, panty liner, and through my pants. When I went pee, I passed a clot about the size of a quarter (I never pass clots bigger than the size of a pencil eraser).
Is this normal? I was onBC for so much of my life I really don't remember non-medicated periods.
If this is normal for you, what do you during the night? I can't wake up every 45 minutes to change my tampon and pad. (I ran out of thick pads so I am currently wearing one of Luke's diapers in addition to the super tampon. Classy).

I don't think this is normal, but all my periods are like this now. I use an ultra tampon (found them on Amazon- tampax Pearl ultra, it's one step above super plus) and a huge overnight maxi pad for bed. I still bleed through all of that often. It was better when I was getting up in the MOTN because I had a reason to change it.
I have an OB appt tomorrow and I can let you k!ow what she says!

I have very heavy periods but I've never bled through all of those things right after each other. Can you call urgent care just to make sure that amount is ok?
I wear super plus tampons and sleep with a pad on day 1 and 2 of my period just in cause.

How do you feel? Are you weak or tired? That would be my main concern--other symptoms. I'd call your doc tomorrow morning just to let them know and get input.

I've had extremely heavy periods since having K. Huge clots, heavy bleeding etc. I went to my OB and he did all sorts of tests, including a cervical biopsy. Ouch! There was no answer. I ended up having a d&c (a good clean out, if you will) and it helped for a little while but it got bad again. I was actually going to go back to the dr for it and then I got pregnant. I feel for you ladies with heavy periods, it's just awful. I too had to buy the Ultra tampons and wear with a huge pads at night. So gross.
I think you should call your OB. I hope you get some answers soon!

I feel fine, no more tired than normal. No weakness. I'll call my doc in the morning. Thank you ladies!

Also, Target carries the Ultra. They are usually on the bottom shelf...don't they know us old ladies shouldn't have to bend down to get our big tampons? They oughta make the teens with the slims do it.

Good to know. NYC drug stores are smaller and carry less, in my experience.

Smaller stores probably don't have room for big tampons. They'd need to eliminate a whole aisle just to accommodate those suckers.

Mine have been way heavier than pre-kids. I never knew how easy I had it! I asked my OB last time and she was pretty unconcerned. I kind of wanted her to give me an awesome solution, but no dice. I think what you describe is excessive though.
I tell DH that I feel like my insides are trying to escape the first two days of my period. I had a tubal after DD was born, so I have no idea if that's adding to it , or just coincidence. I will say, three years out now, it seems to be lessening a tiny bit. My periods have gone for 8ish heavy days (!) to more like three OMG super heavy and two regular and one light day, then it's over. It really sucks. I was hoping for a magical answer, but my OB didn't have one. I hope yours can give you some peace of mind when you call!
I'd call and ask. They might want to do blood work and check your iron. My ob said that if my flow was really heavy all the time, she wanted me on supplements. Thank goodness my body started to right itself.
Super heavy flow is miserable. I hope they can do something or at least give you some piece of mind.

I'm pretty much the same. My periods were super heavy for a while after I had the tubal, and it worried me. I asked my mom when it was happening to me and she said it was the same for her. I don't know why, but I guess it's not uncommon. Hopefully it gets better, but it took a while for my cycles to not be insane. Crazy, super-plus tampons FTW!
My period has been worse too but my tubes aren't tied (yet). That said, it is something I am strongly considering in the future and the reading I've done suggests that other women with a tubal have had very severe periods. I still think you should call and get checked out but it does seem like it's not all that uncommon. I hope it eases up for you with time.
if this is your new normal you might want to ask about an ablation
2 good friends of mine have had ablations for this reason, since having kids. They are both happy with the results, periods very light now. Mine were super heavy also since the kids but now I'm on BCP so that helps, obviously. Hope you get it sorted, I totally sympathise how much heavy periods suck!!
This is also scaring me a bit. I'm supposed to start soon and it will be my first one after my tubal. Maybe I'll pick up some ultra tampons just in case.
