This is like a dream come true from my youth. They are doing a 40th anniversary screening next month and I got tickets!
I have always wanted to see it in the theater. I'm super excited! (You can get tickets at fathomevents.com if interested.)
Maybe it's weird to some people, but I've been in love with that movie forever. I've got an original print of the book and watched the "making of" special a bunch of times.

That's so cool!
When my sister was living and working in Roatan, they had someone put up a big screen on the beach and a bunch of the SCUBA instructors watched it from inner tubes and rafts in the water.

That's so fun! I did the same thing about 10 years ago. There is this beautiful historic theater in downtown Lexington that, during the summer, does showings of classic/older movies for like a dollar. So I enjoyed all sorts of random movies there that year. Jaws was crazy fun though!
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
I'm trying to see more movies this year. We stumbled upon an outdoor screening of Back to the Future last summer and ended up staying awhile, and now I want to get a projector to watch stuff in my back yard.
I don't think that is weird. I still kick myself for not seeing Grease when it had an anniversary showing.
Is this where I tell you that my co-workers and I are dressing up as Sharknado for our company picnic? Every department is supposed to dress in a movie theme. I convinced my team (half of whom haven't seen the movie) that we NEED to be Sharknado. We're turning the boss into a tornado and the rest of us will be sharks. I'm stupidly excited. lol!

Well. I think I love you. Sharknado is an awesome idea! Please post pics.

I WANT TO GO SO BAAAAAAD!! But that's H's birthday, and he's not interested
ETA: found one other show date--yay!
ETA2: We now have tix for the one showing that's NOT on H's birthday. I just told him that I don't think I've ever been this excited about a movie--and it's one that's 40 years old and that I've seen 200 times, LOL. It's one of my all-time favorites; thank you, josieposy for posting about this--I wouldn't have known about it otherwise!

We just got a projector but haven't tried it out yet. We're hoping to fire something up this weekend, since the weather will be good for it.

we have a projector and watch stuff on a huge screen in our basement. bought a portable screen at a school de-accessioning auction, and keep wanting to set it up outside, but we're lazy.
Jaws is a freaking masterpiece.
If you haven't seen this, you should. It will give you even greater appreciation for it.

the book's pretty darn good too. a couple of dirty parts (the chief's wife is has a steamy affair w/ the Richard Dreyfuss character) We used to read it when I had sleepovers when I was teenager

This part royally messed me up when I read it because I could only picture Dreyfuss.

Get the projector! It's so much fun. We do this all the time with the garage doors as the screen. My dream is to set it up and watch while floating in the pool. Jaws is first on our list this year.

You are in the Twin Cities? A local theater is showing it as one of their late night showings in July. $3 seats. The only catch, you have to stay up late to watch it.
Alien, Ghostbusters, Raiders, Purple Rain and a few others are showing too.

Oh cool! Which theater? You can PM me if you prefer.
The first time I saw Jaws was in the theatre a couple years ago.
We have the Cinemark chain which shows a lot of old movies. We've seen Lawrence of Arabia, Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, Dr Strangelove, Ghostbusters. I'm sure there were more.

That is awesome! I would love to see Jaws in the theater.
We're going to Alien next month.
ETA: I missed your link earlier. I'm definitely going to get tickets.
I saw Alien on the big screen a couple years ago. I have seen the movie many times, I know exactly what happens, and when, but I felt so much more tension during the movie in the theater. My heart was literally racing during the final scenes. You will love it! I would love to see Jaws this way too.
