My only real exercise is walking. I occasionally break into a run to see how my knees feel, but mostly they say no. I also garden a good amount, bending to pull weeds, digging holes, and spreading mulch are all great toners. I watch my food choices, I'm not fanatical by any means, and cut waaaaaay back on drinking. The saying is that abs are made in the kitchen, so I've taken that to heart. I feel better, look better, and sleep better with less booze.
But my wine!! Lol I do need to be more conscious of my booze consumption but I feel like with all the parties and time spent at the cabin and fishing or reading a book on the porch swing I consume more booze now than when a lot of people say they consume more booze calories during the thanksgiving/Xmas/New Years - I'm backwards!
I wish I was better with gardening, I seriously either kill my stuff by not watering enough, not pruning correctly, or over watering. We did buy a bunch of plants and sod for the cabin that we plan to work on this wknd so hopefully I can burn some calories that way!
Wine spritzers are a good compromise. I've been known to take a fruity red and mix it 50/50 with sparkling water and a squeeze of lemon.
Those of you who lost 100 plus pounds, did you find any problems with extra skin? I am working on losing 110 pounds and worried about the extra skin. Could muscle toning or something help? Also, I have PCOS and have a hard time losing weight. Does anyone have any tips?
What great motivation/inspiration it is to see all different types of women accomplishing big steps in their health! Everyone looks amazing and despite any setbacks, you can tell that even the smallest efforts or changes make a big difference! Everyone should be so proud of what they've accomplished. Now I know you can't spot reduce, but give me your best exercises to lose and tone the abs!
Try the 30 Day Shred! I know not everyone loves Jillian Michaels but these are my results with it (and her other videos). Obviously this more than the 30 days but it's a really good video. I also like her Ripped in 30 videos and 6 week 6 pack. If you really don't like JM there are some GymRa videos with Christine Khuri on Youtube that are amazing.
So this isn't a huge change, but this is week 1 and week 9 of BBG. I still have 5ish pounds to go, and I have a ton of extra squishy skin on my belly, but so far I'm pretty pleased with the results. And I'm sure I would see more change if I stopped eating cookies and cheesesteaks, but, well... No. Lol.
McGavin was that all with Jillian Michaels DVDs?? Because you look super cut! And amazing!
You look amazing, too. Great work! Yes, all at home workouts/videos, mostly JM, and other youtube videos (FitnessBlender, GymRa and PopsugarFitness). I wish I could join a gym but it's really inconvenient. My heaviest dumbbell is 8lbs, lol.

(Lost 157 lbs) Yes. I completely deflated and my stomach never really recovered. I did get a tummy tuck and they took 10lbs /19 inches of skin off. I was terrified of having loose skin, but now it doesn't bother me as much. The little extra bounce in my legs or arms is much more comfortable than me being heavy. I've now been doing weight training and lifting and am really proud of the results. The skin is amazingly resilient!
I have Hashimoto's which makes me hypothyroid. The struggle is real! For me personally, the best way to lose weight was to let NOTHING stand in my way. It made me work harder (more cardio) and be more careful with my food (less carbs). It wasn't fair to see other people seemingly lose so effortlessly. I got angry and motivated! You can absolutely do it! Do research about PCOS diet recommendations and find a balance that works for you! You've got this

That's a huge change! Congratulations! I have been looking at B&As all week and getting angry and motivated. The last dietician I went to said to use more protein and less carbs. That only ended in gaining 10 pounds. I cut out most meat, dairy, soy and supplemented with nuts, beans, and a helluva lot of veggies. I think I lost about 20-25 pounds and 2 pant sizes. When I moved I fell off the healthy wagon. I am cleaning out the crap food out and getting my butt in gear today. Thank you for the motivation!

Well, 20-25lbs is awesome!! Way to go! Clean eating is what really did it for me. Sounds like you are finding something that is working

Thanks! I had forgot that carbs was the biggest part of losing and sugar intake. That together was a huge deal. :-)

The pics below are after 5lb were lost.
The July 2013 should say July 2014 (and I wasn't sucking anything in).
And here's Dec 2014:
I only lost 20lb but weight lifting and bodyweight exercises have helped and I've maintained the weight loss. MFP is my friend. I'm now trying to lose another 5-10 lb starting in June.

My friends who have lost that much weight found weight lifting (Stronglifts, Starting Strength or the New Rules) and doing it slowly worked wonders for loose skin.
I love this thread! Thank you all, you all look fantastic.
No pics, but I am down about 14 pounds from April 13. I make exercise a priority now, even if I can only squeeze in 25-30 minutes a day. I work out during lunch and bring my lunch to work almost every day so I'm not tempted to eat fast food or junk. The diet part is the hardest for me. I love healthy food but I also love carbs and sugar and it's a daily struggle to make the right choices. My ultimate goal is to lose 75 pounds. I have a long way to go and that number overwhelms me so I'm just taking it five pounds at a time.

Yes. The extra skin is causing lots of issues, especially the lower belly. When I run, it gets chaffed so bad, regardless of how much I lather it with body glide. I keep a constant eye on it because I'm worried of infection.
(If) I have a third baby, I plan on getting skin removal surgery when its all over.

I lost 140 lbs during my initial journey, and I was so anxious about the loose skin. I did have some loose skin under my arms, but it didn't actually bother me as time went on and I toned up. To my surprise, there wasn't that much loose skin overall. My skin seemed to bounce back and at my lowest or steady lowest I felt pretty good naked, granted, not bikini comfortable with all my stretch marks. My stomach just looked like I went through some pregnancies. I had a small pooch.
Now, the one body part that was very affected were my breasts. I was never large-chested to begin with, but I was one of those who lost a lot of breast volume/fat during that whole process. So I was left with breasts that were very saggy with little to no volume. That was the one thing I was self-conscious about. I was close to having a breast lift/aug 3-4 years ago. I had the consult, but ended up putting it off until I was sure I was done having kids.
That is still the one major procedure(s) I plan to have done in the future. Tummy tuck would be nice, but I felt good about my body and the minimal loose skin. It was/is all about the boobs.

I'm worried about chaffing. I will have to watch that. Thank you! :-)

I'm pretty sure when it's all said and done I will have concerns about my looks. Eh, it can be fixed, but my health can't be fixed from being obese. :-) it'll be a win-win situation.

McGavin How long was the period between your before and after? How many days a week and did you change your eating habits as well? I look like your before, and I'm getting inspired!

Yes. You can see it in my arms in my after picture. I'll never look like super model- but I felt damn good being that healthy and in shape. The skin never bothered me after I came to terms with the fact I'd never be walking the red carpet

That after picture is after a year but I looked like that about 4 or 5 months after starting. I started with the 30 Day Shred and did it everyday for 30 days. Two weeks before starting the Shred I would do exercises like 10 pushups, 20 squats, 20 sit-ups to get ready for the Shred because every other time I stopped after two days because I was so sore. After the 30 days I was still doing videos 5 or 6 times a week and running (3 or 5km) a couple times a week.
As for diet I'm eating way more now then I did before. I actually eat breakfast now (granola/nut cereal with chia seeds and fruit) snack (yogurt), lunch (leftovers, or wrap, snack (fruit), dinner (high protein& low carb).
At this point I'm in maintenance mode and it's fairly easy. Videos 3 or 4 times a week with randoms runs. The added muscles really allow for some cheats with the diet.

When I got pregnant last summer I was around 128ish and maintained for 2 years from 160 pounds. I delivered on April 2, when i went to the hospital I weighed at 182. Now i'm down to 142 and would really like to get down to 130. I am doing the 30 day shred, counting calories, and just recently started going to the gym. I can post pics later.
