This is the Chihuly chandelier that my granddaughter's fifth grade class made that I was so excited to do with them. I suck at art docenting as a general rule but we've had a few good projects this year. This was my favorite. There were several people that asked if we were going to donate it to the carnival auction so they could bid on it!
The kids spent a class session learning a bit about Dale Chihuly and coloring water bottles with sharpies (another suggested, and probably quicker, method was to fill with diluted paint, swirl and let dry). They then cut off the bottoms and cut them into spirals toward the top. I made a frame of chicken wire and shoved the bottles into the holes. I added a light bulb so we could plug it in and light it up. I'm going to take out the light bulb, make the top slightly better with some modifications (it's held together with duct tape...I'm going to add chains for hanging instead) and then we are going to donate it for the auction. Should be interesting to see what/if people are willing to pay for kids' art projects.
Lit up last night. (One huge reason I'm changing out the lights to small colored Christmas lights. This is one large energy saver, so there's lots of light in one spot and none everywhere else. Besides, Kidlet wants her hanging lamp back.

Colored Chrismas lights? I think the colored lights with the colorful shade might muddy the colors, actually. I think I'd just go with white Christmas lights. Just a thought. This project came out terrific, though! Love it. Want to copy it.
