DH had two on him - one bite. A student in my class had one on him after recess. So far, none on the kids, but I keep worrying that I've missed one. They're really bad - in short grass, too. The news reported that our snowy winter protected them from the cold and a terrible season was predicted.

They can get pretty bad here especially in wooded areas where we hike. We spray ALL the chemicals on ourselves when hiking. It has worked really well so far; I still check myself and my hair after hiking or being in areas with ticks.
I was told they would be bad, so we have treated the yard heavily. I check the kiddos and the dog daily and haven't seen anthing on them either, but I wonder if it has anything to do with the cicadas being out this year? Damn ticks are too scared to come out.
We have only found one on our pup but that was in the one time we took him for a walk in the woods. The vet said that they have been so bad here that lots of dogs have each had 4-6 ticks. So I guess we are extremely lucky.
I have never given him the chemical tick/flea (we don't get fleas here.) treatment until I pulled this tick off him. I will treat him again in the fall as it's now getting to hot for ticks here.
A couple of years ago ticks were HORRIBLE in my area. We took our dog to a state park and did a couple of hikes. We came home and my DH pulled SIXTY ticks off of the dog. They were everywhere--he even found a couple between her toes. I was creeped out for days; I kept thinking I felt them crawling on me.
Bad, for whatever reason DH always gets them. We were in the park this weekend and I basically ran out of the woods after we found another one on him, yuck.
I hate ticks. I think there was a brief very bad period around where I am (north of boston) because I found one on myself after just going to the playground and a number of other people told me stories about finding ticks on themselves from being in the garden etc.
I think it's died down now but my paranoia hasn't. Every time I see a dot on one of the kids I freak out
We have a large furry dog too so that increases my paranoia. it's hard to find them on him because his fur is so thick. We use frontline on him
Ugh. I'm sorry for everyone who is dealing with this. We have a lot in my area, and our property has a lot of trees, but they are pretty spread out. We also have chickens ranging around the house, which keeps them down. I am so hippy dippy about everything - organic food, baking soda and vinegar for cleaning, everything - but I Frontline my dog and DEET myself because I blow up like a balloon from mosquito bites and am terrified of tick-borne illness.
really? I didn't know this. I have wanted chickens since we moved in but resigned myself to waiting until the kids were older, maybe I need them now. fucking ticks
