When we flew an airline (can't recall the name) in Germany from Berlin to Munich they marched everyone out onto the tarmac and people boarded in both the front and rear of the plane depending on your seating. We deplaned that way too. It was speedy and kind of awesome. Full-sized plane too.
Indigo does this on domestic flights in India. It does not speed up the boarding process at all! I also had this on a BA flight out of LHR; took them an hour to get the flight boarded because we had to be bussed out to the plane and then we had to hoof it up stairs with our carry ons.
I think the rule with bags should be this - it is carry on, if you can carry it. If you cant lift it into the above seat storage, its not carry on. Also, lets teach people to count to 2. That would be great lol.
What about people that are short? I can get mine up but I have to stand on the seat to even reach the overhead bag to get it out again when the flight is done. I'm only 5'0".

I think she's referring to bags that are so heavy you need 2 people to lift them up.
We flew Icelandicair this weekend, and the gate attendant would eye your bag and if it was questionable, they'd make you stick it in a box. No fit, no carry on. I wish all airlines did this, lack of space in the overhead b/c someone thinks their bag that won't fit wheels first into the overhead bin is still a carry on makes me ragey.
There was a FB group for the trip we took, and people were freaking out about non-US airlines actually enforcing carryon size requirements, some were even buying these ridiculous looking wearable suitcases.
I've had that happen with several airlines.
frontier used to require you to have your bag measured and your boarding pass signed off on if you were carrying something on and stowing it above your seat.
I think a lot of the carry on nonsense would be stopped if flight attendants actually enforced the rules. I was on a flight this past winter and they made several announcements reminding people "It's a very full flight, so any coats you have, please put them at your seat and leave the overhead bins for larger bags."
Yeah, half the bins were taken up by people's coats.
Most trips I take, I refuse to check a bag. I fly with my roller suitcase that yes, fits in the overhead, and my Lo & Sons OMG bag for under the seat.
I am also the asshole that has no problem loudly asking "Who's stuff is this?" if it's in the bin over my seat, and no one is around. I am also the giant asshole that will move it back further.
I am also the hugest asshole in that I suffer from "I can stow my shit in 5 seconds, what's your problem?" syndrome.
Boarding a plane isn't hard. Dumbass people make it hard. I don't think a valet bag service will fix that, because people will still find ways to be dumbasses.

they need to be more like teachers at the end of a warm recess to lines of children. Hold them up, Who's Coat Is This?? OK, no one's! It's going to lost and found. They don't work for tips, they can be a little more assertive.

My Dad has always said that every person should have assigned overhead space. If your bag fits in your cubby - great. But then you can't put stuff in somebody else's cubby. And boarding order wouldn't matter. And if you don't use the overhead - you could share if you wanted to. Then people can choose to check their fragile hat and nobody can stick a bag on it. We all paid the same. No, I have never done the hat thing but have seen it.
Air Canada is now enforcing the carry on bag rules. You have to stick it in the measuring box. Doesn't fit? Out of luck. Most American flights I have been on have cheaters but nobody says a word. And gate check is cheating too and slowing the process. Why should I pay $20 to check my suitcase properly and you pay nothing and check it at the gate and get it immediately after Landing? What is this weird system? Happens often with people with big bags that 'surprise' didn't fit.

I wonder how the onboard time changed when airlines went to the "Charge you for checked baggage" model. If they went back to covering the cost of checked bags in the ticket price, I think a lot more people would check those bags and then not try to stuff a week's worth of stuff in the overhead bin. But I could be wrong.
