My school is having field day in the rain

60 degrees. Light rain all morning - not downpouring but definitely needing umbrellas and jackets. Most kids came to school wearing their field day t-shirt and shorts. We were outside from 8:30-11:30, and now headed back out from 1-3:15. The rain isn't supposed to stop until 3:00.

80 degrees and rainy is one thing.

60 degrees and rainy is another. I don't think I'd be thrilled about my kid spending hours outside in 60 degree rain.

Are the kids complaining or having fun?

I am surprised they went ahead with it, especially since it's not even a warm rain. I'm pretty sure our school has a rain date for field day.

Yes! Wet! lol. Our kids here play in the snow for a couple hours in 20 degrees. They'll do fine in light rain.

When I was a kid field day always seemed to be the day it was 90 degrees outside, with no shade (and no sunscreen either, because it was the 80s). Having it happen when it was 60 degrees and raining would have been awesome.

Midwest born and raised, and there's no way in hell I'd be happy about this.

Playing outside in 20 degrees for hours is insane to me, as is playing outside in 60 degree rain for hours.

6o degrees is nice. 69 degrees and wet is not. Eww.

This is exactly what I thought.

They'd be fine. Admittedly 60 is like the cold-limit for me w rain but like PP said, they're going to be running around and expending energy. They'll heat up and be fine.

DS2 (6 yo) went to an outdoor birthday party on Sunday at a local farm, where they did a corn maze and a hay ride in a torrential downpour. At first I felt awful for the birthday girl, but every single kid loved it. DS thought it was the best party he'd ever been to. I want to say it was low 60's? I was miserable, lol.

It can be difficult reschedule field day at the end of the year. If they called it off, they may not get to do it at all.

I hated field day, as it was (see also: recess, PE class, playground playdates, biddy basketball). I would have been on the fence crying if my teachers made me go outside in the rain - let alone for 5 hours!

Its only awesome if you're into running competitively. Which I'm not. I haaaaated it.
